I just wanted to put a thread out really to thank those who gave me advice for my horse (re crippled ex racer). I have now started to ride her in her boots and pads. She is doing really well and is sound. The new growth she has is great without a hint of cracks. I have been turning her out in old macs with 1" pads for about 5-6 hours since dec. she had imprints on before for about 3 months but these stayed on for about 2 weeks at a time and her hoof didn't grow at all. She now goes out for longer in equine fushion boots which are great. I ride her in the old macs as I can only get the thick pads in those. It is lovely to see her play with the others in the field and hooning about and not having nightmares about her feet falling off. She will have an X-ray in the summer to see how it's all settled down but if she never has a shoe on again and has to wear boots and pads for ever, we will be a long way forward from last September and content to be happy hackers!
