So I was reading a book.

And I wrote down 7 that sound like they would help me and 5 for 1 of my horses :o

But before I go spend a fortune...do they actually work?

I've never used them on a horse. I have used Rescue remedy in the past when I had a nightmare of a boss and it helped (I used to take a glug before I had meetings with him to stop me strangling him ), but I don't know how psychological that was.

i swear by rescue remedy. I use it for all us humans and all the animals when nec. I find it helps stop the stress building up . I have used others when we suffered a bereavment but wouldnt use too many together

They work if you believe in them ;) (I believe in RR and so does my TB or I'm just more relaxed competing on him when we've both had RR and it transfers to him.....)

Bach flower remedies do work.
Which onces were you thinking and why?

I have used the very successfully on myself, my horses and alos others I treat. When I am mixing up a remedy, I would mix maximum of 6 at once and I recommend that both rider and horse take the same mixture as our horses so often mirror our behaviour whether we realise it or not.

Feel free to PM me if you like :)

Have only used Rescue Remedy, and it is amazing. Had never heard of it until I got landed (long story so won't go into here) with loose stallion one summer's night. No idea whose he was, stallion very fraught, striking out etc. Rang around. Local dealer/breeder came up to give me a hand, with her bottle of RR. I was less than flatterinig about what help it could be. Within 20 minutes we had an old neddy on our hands. Simply wonderful stuff. Obviously the horse believed in it!!

I have used rescue remedy on myself and also the cherry plum which is supposed to alleviate feeling out of control.

With horses, how much do you give them? Have never gave to animals before.

I used rock rose RR on me and M the day I lost him - beforehand I mean, not as a result of losing him - it was the first time I had tried it on him although I had used it before at work. Does anyone know if there is there any chance at all that this could have contributed to what happened? (he had a heart attack) Sorry to high jack thread but I have always wondered in the back of my mind and been afraid to use it since :o

Emilieu, no there is no chance it contributed to his heart attack.
Flower essences are perfectly safe to use, if an essence if not appropriate for the situation then it will do nothing.

Rock Rose is used for extreme fear, terror and panic. It helps to calm down.

Thank you. I have always worried. It probably helped me cope with what happened but it has always niggled in my mind. A trainer had suggested it to me to help with severe napping issues.

I use rescue remedy & it works. Might be completely psychological. I do like the taste of it. Is it brandy in it? I've never had brandy but I might get some if it tastes like rr.
Kx

Sometimes I put 4 drops on an extra strong mint and feed it to horses that I think might be a bit sharp or stressy, then I take 4 drops myself and promptly forget all about it. I don't know if it works or not but at least it stops me thinking too much. I don't really believe in calmers for horses, this is more of a ritual thing - like putting my left sock and left boot on first - I do it if I think about it, so I'll keep doing it when I do think about it, just in case :o

Sorry for your loss :( I would think though, that the remedy would have been beneficial to you both on that day with that happening, so at least you can turn your worry into something positive :)

Interesting... I have a very stressy mare, she has been out of work for a little while. Do you think rescue remedy would be good for her?

Please can someone explain how to use it?

dollymix, it comes in a spray or with a dropper.

You can add it to their water, mix it in with feed, apply it over the poll or administer it orally.

I tend to pop a few drops on the inside of my boys lower lip. If they are really stressed, I will also add it to the water in their paddocks and stable and pop a bit in a feed. Whatever the body doesn't need or can't use just gets passed as waste so you can't over dose them. :)
