My friend's mum is a bach flower consultant. My mare got very stressed when we moved yards, she did a phone consultation and made up solutions for both of us (apparently different characters need different remedies even if the symptoms are the same). I used it for two weeks before the next move and she settled instantly.
Both of us benefitted from this greatly and I'd throughly recommend them.
I would be interested to know if there is any remedy I can give my horse - he has started to be very nervous and jumpy out on hacks on his own - seems to have lost all confidence - has bolted with me a couple of times back up the road - he was always trustworty and reliable before - I took him anywhere - now scared to go out on my own!!!
i tried 'rock rose' as suggested in horse magazine. found very expensive to give in doses required and horsey had a massive flehmm (?sp) response to it so only used once-
wasn't convinced
however they are also supposed to lower the heart rate which worried me a bit; so stopped using on horse and started using myself- much more successful- less nervous rider certainly helped
i gave my mare star of bethlehem when she went into " a sulk type state" after we lost our old tb who she was very attached too, i too took it to help try and pick me up. within a week my mare was eating again and actually wanting to be with the others rather than hanging her head sadly in a corner, i stopped crying and cheered up alot, we all miss him very much but life is back on track now.
i bought a book on bach flowers and animals and the dose i used was 10 drops per day for the horse and 4 drops per day for me, the bottle was about £4 so i didn't think it was dear at all. i also use rescue remedy for allsorts, its very good for nerves, shock etc, i have some ina pouch when out riding in case of an accident, it helped me stop shaking when i came head first over one of my horses the other week, i also used it when i was ill a month or so ago with a sickness bug, i couldn't even keep water down so i rubbed 4 drops on my gums at various intervals and within an hour i could have a drink and i improved from there. i use holly on my alpha bitch to stop her being so dominat over the others and rock rose (if i remember rightly) stops my lurcher bitch from being such a fraidy act of fireworks.
so all in all i recommend them, and book says you cannot over dose or even if you get wrong oil it doesn't matter as it doesn't cause problems etc.
