Back at Uni and missing horses!!

This is a self indulgent whinge, I apologise in advance!

I don't really have anyone to talk to who understands and would love to hear that there are other people out there in a similar situation!

I am really missing being horsey. I have gone from working with horses over the summer to having a hours riding lesson, once a week! Even these haven't started yet... My gym trips are so boring and clinical and I don't arrive home with muck under my fingernails.

It is incredibly frustrating because I have enough money saved that I could buy a brilliant horse, however I would struggle to afford to keep one and the money is set aside to do the LPC (legal poactice course.)

I might look for a share, my problem is the lack of transport, I have a bike and can travel by bus, but apart from that wouldn't really be able to get very far.

If you know anyone looking for a sharer around the university of Hull (or Cottingham) area please let me know!

Anyone else care to whinge? Any horseless grumble is fine!

I had the exact same reaction when I moved to uni last year as I have always owned horses and went from going to the stables twice a day to selling my gorgeous competition gelding! I loved the freedom for about 2 months and then realised my uni course and being so far away from home without the horses wasnt what i wanted to do.

After first year I am now living back at home since leaving uni, working full time for a year before going back to uni next year closer to home so i can keep my beautiful little filly I have just bought!

I know im not the best person to help but I do know exactly what your feeling! What about visiting horses if your home for the weekend? Has your uni got a riding team, you might not ride more than once a week but you will be surrounded by like minded people!

In the long run just think that once you have your degree and excellent job (fingers crossed!) you can have that horse of your dreams!

Have been in a similar situation whilst at uni.
I advertised locally for horses to exercise and have had some lovely some a little crazy to ride although with the nature of my degree I don't have the time to do that this year We are lucky here though as there are lots of yards near bus routes etc.
Now I have made some lovely horsey friends and get my fix grooming and accompanying at shows and organising horsey trips not quite the same but i have met some great friends through the riding club and here incidentally and i am on the committee this year so I have more say in activities
I console myself with the fact when I qualify I will be able to afford a horse comfortably but if you are happy exercising and sharing etc. definitely a good way to get the dirt back under your nails. Oo and there are always the lovely long holidays where you can get horsey jobs and go abroad there are plenty of opportunities out there. Good luck xxx

I am in my second year, it has just hit me harder because I was spending about 9 hours a day working with beautiful, wonderful horses in Italy!

I am in the riding club already and it is with them that I ride once a week, at Bishop Burton , however they only ride once a week. They are lovely girls but apart from one none of them I spend time with.

I am going home this weekend and am looking forwards to riding a LOT. I have team trials next monday so thought I should get in some practice for that.

I might advertise for horses, however I don't think that I can ride well enough for most people to want me to exercise their horses. I am mainly a happy hacker!

I am really looking forward to being able to afford my own horse, though I have quite a wait yet! (4 years before I will be able to draw a salary!)
