For the past week or so I have noticed Tilly's back becomming quite tender when I am brushing her (soft body brush & light pressure); so last week I got the vet to check her over.
The vet came last Friday and said that as she had not been ridden for a while there was quite a bit of muscle loss on her back and her back did appear to be sore; she suspected that she may have done something in the field.
Anyway she suggested that before I ride that I try to build up a bit of muscle on her back over a period of 6 - 8 weeks by using a Pessoa or equivalent starting with the very basic setting to begin with.
Also she suggested that she would probably benefit from some physio and gave me the name of a lady that the practice uses.
The physio came on Tuesday and agreed that her back was quite sore and proceeded with the manipulation. She then said I should get my saddle checked and begin to ride her - long & low - beginning next week and contact her again in a month.
Today I got my saddle checked and it fitted her fine - the fitter ran his hand along her back and said it felt more like her spine was sore and not her muscles but to give her a few days and see what she's like when she has settled down after the physio's visit
Well done if you've got this far .....
Now do I follow the vet's or the physio's advice.
My personal opinion was to either lunge her or long rein her for a short spell each day with the Pessoa set at it's basic rather than her being impeded by the additional weight of a rider and see how she goes.
Suggestions please
