Hi,
Does anyone have his phone number as i have heard rave reviews about him and think my new horse may need his back done. Does he do home visits or do you have to go to him as I dont have transport.
Or does anyone have names of other good back people in the bristol area?
Thanks in advance

thanks for that link!

He is really good, he will travel to you. He lives just by me, if i remember will look on his gate tomorrow and get number for you.

tex gamble and bob livock work hand in hand. dont think either have any qualification! bob livock is good on teeth (or was when i last saw him) tex gamble comes and goes around! bob too! but both are of the old school good, hard horsemen. choices are for the owner. bit neither would be my first choice now!

He does alot round me and I still wouldn't touch with someone elses barge pole, especially after seeing his West Wilts 'clinics'... no insurance, telling people their horses pelvis is out (not possible) and encouraging people to jump minutes after this so called 'manipulation' (at West Wilts in particular, after his 'Clinics') is tripe!! After my chiro treatment I know I certainly feel sore and stiff!! But each person to their own bandwagon

OK, everyone seems to have different opinions! great to hear all your advice though. but does anyone have names of other people? like an equine physio? My rugby bf agrees with you archiesmum- about jumping after manipulations! he said he feel dizzy and 'awkward' after so therefore i guess the horse would! and from any horse physios ive seen they only advise very light work for couple days after. but im not an expert....!

Having heard of the serious damage he has caused a few horses, personally, I wouldn't let him within 100 miles of my horses. Some really rate him though.

A vet advised me not to use unqualified or uninsured practioners as you have no comeback if something goes wrong. I don't know the man but same vet told me Tex isn't registered but that was about 6 years ago.

I use Lou Simmonds, always been very pleased with her.

Tex picked up an issue with my old horse after 3 vets couldn't help. He couldn't fix him as it was ringbone (yes 3 vets missed that, even with nerve blocks). He's also picked up various other things that the vets had missed too over the years. If he was local to me he would be my first port of call if any of mine went lame, I've heard many, many success stories about his work which is unusual as you usually only hear the bad things!

People love the idea that the problems they are experiencing with their horse is because the poll/pelvis/vertebrae are out and TG can come along and put them back in again. How lovely and simple!

In fact its a load of cobblers. if a horses poll or vertebrae was 'out' it would be dislocated and i hope there is enough intelligence on this forum to work out what that would mean. Furthermore, the force required to dislocate a horses pelvis is huge- maybe why i have heard tales of TG jumping from stable rafters in an attempt at 'treatment'.

Anyone treating the horse should have your vets permission and also be insured. If they do not they are unprofessional and not worth risking the health and welfare of any horse on.

If a horse has back problems there is no such thing as a one off miracle shove treatment and voila- a super fit horse. The horse requires good management, well fitting tack, a balanced rider and appropriate exercise. Any treatment should be carried out by a registered, insured practitioner with the knowledge of your vet - NOT someone who one minute is a farrier, then a dentist and then wakes up one day and thinks theres more money in being back man.

There are some seriously gullible people in the horse industry that pay good money for crap and even harmful advice.

I suggest you look on here instead-

thanks teddyt for that link. i agree with you re the insurance and the actual anatomy of the horse- its not possible is it. its just difficult really, just want to do the best for my horse. was talking to somone else this morning and they thought it was all rubbish. my other half thinks same also and just agrees that muscles just need to be worked correctly. thanks for all your help in making a decision!

Here here teddyt

Like humans, you can manipulate the muscles only, and even then that's only to try and free them up and extend the movement. Really annoys me when people say their horse had a rotated pelvis!

So you can pay for a back massage on your horse, but to be honest the biggest cause of problems is not saddle fit, but an ungainly rider bumping around. I wish people would address their own straightness and impact before rushing to the back man and attempting to treat the symptoms and not the cause.

I took my mare to Tex 10 yrs ago for treatment having heard really good reports of his work from friends. He said she was a bit tight in her back but nothing major, treated her using a rubber mallett & said she'd be fine. Having always travelled well up til then, she was really distressed on the way home & seemed unable to balance properly. Three months later a scintigraphy scan diagnosed severe arthritis in her spine and she had to be PTS aged 7 shortly afterwards.
Although I don't think he was responsible for her problems, he certainly didn't help & must have inflicted a lot of pain on an already suffering horse and I will never forgive myself for allowing him to do that.

I am a great fan of back people, having one who does me and the horse (normally at the same time!) as we both set eachother off, I am wonky so the poor pone hasnt got much hope! F would be one of those who you would say his pelvis was 'out' I think its a bad term, I know what it means, chiro know what it means but I wish they wouldnt use it! It is all muscular and they can make a real difference. However if anyone approached my horse with a rubber mallet they would be give short shrift and asked to leave!
