Back in season or not?

The miniature mare i have had with me is now 20 days since last covered. We have been teasing her over the door to see whether she has come back in and she has showed no signs at all. She is also grazed in the field next to my stallion adn he has shown no interest.
However i went to put her in the field tonight and she passed a mare in a field and started winking at her?? :confused: thinking she was possibly back in season i got my stallion out but she wouldnt entertain him and was not showing any signs at all.

Im not that experienced in breeding and im confused as to her reaction to the mare? Can anyone shed any light on the matter?
 
Dont know if this would help you at all really, but my girl winked at Melly all the way through her pregnancy... perhaps its a kind of "Im up the duff, be nice to me" type thing?? Hope someone with more help comes along! x
 
When a mare winks and they are not in full season it is actually a sign of anger/annoyance - basically she's saying get lost, they will do it to any other horse who shows unwanted attention not just the stallion, and it is sometimes done when doing a bit of a pee at the same time, as well as swinging their butt towards the offender along with squealing and striking if they are really pissed off!!!:D
I'd keep teasing for the next week or so - some mares don't cycle dead on 21 days so better to keep checking and not waste money getting the vet out just to find they are within 12hrs of ovulating!, then you can book your vet to do the first scan.
 
In that case I'd keep teasing/grazing her next to the stallion for the next few months, just incase she reabsorbs and comes back in again, and keep fingers crossed!!:D Good luck!!:D
 
I'm with Alexart - could well be an aggressive reaction rather than a hormonal one.

Your best clue is her behaviour pre covering and whilst in season. Did she behave typically towards the stallion ie anti, then demonstratively in season? If she did then you quite possibly have a pregnant mare however you may also have a persistent CL which would negate her coming back into season but only a scan will identify this obviously and I appreciate that this is not possible.

Not sure if a blood test will identify it ?
 
That's a bummer - but still time to get her in foal yet! Has your stallion got any sproglets on the ground yet and is this a maiden mare?
