On Saturday I went into the ring competitively for the first time in over 3 years. Only a couple of little classes but I achieved my main aims which where

Off we tootled to Coombelands for the unaff, not jumped there before and I liked the fact I was given times to jump. Made life a bit easier and didnt make the place heave with people.
She was a star over all, a bit loud in the lorry park and was impatient so had to get her off the lorry but that is a work in progress. Warmed up nicely, I mainly wanted forwards so did a bit of forward and then back in the canter which really got her powering. Over a few warm up fences and I still managed to be early even thou I had a time to work to. Went in, remembered to breathe, got her forward in the canter although she was gawping a bit as we came past the scary fillers in the corner and down to the first. There where random strides throughout but all I wanted was forward and off my leg, no stopping. 3 was deep and needed a look, 4 was a black and white double with bright white filler in and Id seen a few stop or take a really good look, she wibbled but went (fab pic over the second part, looks like she doing a trot pole!). Nothing more suspicious to look at until we had a bigger wobble at 9 with the wheel type fillers but still jumped without a stop. Shot past the scary filler corner again and round over a couple more to finish. Which nearly went pear shaped as I relaxed, thought we would carry on round to the right, she didn't want to go to the scary filler corner and went left, could have been embarrassing but I will make sure I dont flop after the finish. It was single phase so a lovely double clear.

About an hour until next class so back to untack and for her to stuff her face for a bit. Didnt manage to eat as Id managed breakfast and not felt sick so wasnt going to tempt fate with lunch!
Tacked back up and went over to walk the course, I was only about 10th in so walked and had a quick warm up, repeating like I did in the first one. She didnt feel tired which I was pleased with and took me into the fences nicely. Managed to go early as people didnt turn up/werent ready. Felt bolder as she had seen them already, a few she hadnt but it didnt seem to faze her. Rolled a pole coming out of the double but she had tapped that in the last round coming out and I think she just got a bit big and onward bound through it. Had a look at the second to last but jumped it fine. So 4 faults in the first round for in the 80cm but jumped the raised jump off really nicely.

You could say I'm super chuffed with her. She was a joy to ride and gave me some lovely unasked for changes going round, kept forward and jumping which is all I wanted. Ive got things to work on, I need to strengthen and stabilise my lower leg so it doesnt swing back over a fence but I also need to get her sharper off it so one will help the other. I also need to stop going up her neck over a fence.
On the positive side (and I have found some which is great for me!) I wasnt tipping forward or collapsing as much, still a way to go but getting there.
I even got a really good, bigger next time from my trainer, I nearly fell off my chair when she messaged me that! :biggrin3: She only says its good when it really is, she is not one to hand out praise lightly and without really meaning it which works for me.
She is so different from my big ginger and we are still working each other out but it was lovely to get back in the ring again even if it was small stuff.
Not sure what is next, playing it by ear. Going to work on off my leg and trying and find some hacking (hacking round me is a bit dire I'm finding out) to practice forwards with more room than the school and work on transitions in the school.
And a pic because she is cute
