So I lunged the boy today, and noticed in canter on the right rein he finds it very difficult to go in to canter on the right leg once in canter he changes leads on the front but then is disunited, however looks quite comfortable. Which is a bit odd??
I kept bringing him back to trott and in to canter again to encourage to canter with the correct lead and when he got it right he was completely unbalanced.
He looked as if he was twisting his back so I could practically see the top of the left hip, and he was bringing his right hind so far underneath him and sort of crossing it across to the left (if that makes sense! Very difficult to explain!), it just looked wrong!!

On the left however no problem, strike off on the correct lead nice and steady just a little unbalanced but nothing out of character.

We recently had the saddle check and reflocked, teeth are up to date.
So could there be a prob with his back? He shows no signs he's uncomfortable when ridden.
He's just very very unbalance.

Iv had bad experiences with physios and not sure if I want to go down that route 1st, apart from the vet who else could give me a professional opinion?

Thanks for your help

I would get a Chiropractor or McTimony practitioner rather than a physio to check him out. It sounds very much like a back problem to me. Better to sort out any physical problems before starting to work on his balance.

Hi I would get the vet out straight away, my horse did exactly the same stepping over with the right hind, she was only 1/10 lame so it was hard to see, my horse also was very sore behind and under the saddle. I spent months with the saddler and physio's only to have the vet X-ray her hocks and she has bone Spavin's, which we have treated, but I had to investigate further and because I needed to get too the bottom of the soreness behind the saddle, which we now know is kissing spine.

Hope your news is better than mine, but to this day we do not know which caused which.

Hope this post helps

Wow that's scary!!
I hope its not a major problem! As far as the saddler goes she's was happy with how his saddle fits and how he moves when ridden, there was a few lumps in the padding which she removed.there's no tenderness anywhere on his back.
Thinking about it he has allways.been one sided, as most horses are, but since having his saddle down the difference between left and right rein is like jekyall and Hyde! He's not nasty in any way just wonkey feeling and heavy on the hands.
Will definitely get someone out to see him, before he gets any worse!

Update:

Had the back person out yesterday, he had strained his back just behind his saddle, causing him to drop his right hip. She said he was extreamly wonkey.
Hes having a few days off and then back in to light work, fingers crossed this does the trick or he'll be getting another visit from her!

Thanks for your help, we hope we are on the road to recovery now.
