What are people's opinions on the back on track rugs and pads? Pony had the physio the other week and was quite tight in his back (no surprises there), he has also been in intermittent work the last few months and lost a lot of muscle. I'm looking at back on track stuff or something like the equilibrium massage pad. Just wondering how anyone got on with them?

Thanks

:)

I have a rug and use it whenever I can. I think it helps and it's very lightweight. I'd like to have it on her for a few hours before each ride but the yard staff can't always manage this. I do travel her in it. A friend has the boots and swears by them. They basically just keep them warm so some people say just put an extra rug on!

I have a back brace for me, it really does seem to help. I'm not sure if its just the support or if something else is going on, but based on my experience I'd be happy to use it on the horses :)

I have 2 rugs for the dog, one fleece and one mesh, and it makes a huge and very noticeable difference to him. I put it on him at night when he is stiff and slow and sore, and he wakes up like a new puppy! He now wears it after every walk in the winter for a few hours and it stops any post exercise stiffness and often before if we are going somewhere in the van to walk, so he gets out ready warmed up (11yr old with spondylosis, hip dysplasia and multiple joint arthritis).

I have got a wrist brace and it made a word of difference to my badly broken wrist post op (x3 ops!) so I bought the horses a rug each, a saddle cloth and then a full set of boots to travel in/stable.
I love the BoT stuff, I know its not cheap, but its good quality and it works.

Thanks for the feedback. I was also wondering if something like the rug would make him too hot as he's quite a warm pony. But then if you get something like the saddle pad they only wear it when they're in work and not before or after which I would have thought would be preferable?

I can't say for certain with the horse rugs, but my dog tends to get quite hot yet the mesh coat doesn't seem to warm him up as such. The fleece does, but only as much as I would have expected for fleece - it's thin fleece and I put another over the top if it is really cold. So if the rug is a summer sheet then I doubt your horse would get too hot, if it is thicker then it would function as that thickness of rug.

I dont really like the back on track rugs as all they really do is keep the horse warm. I would try and work out why the tigtness is there and ask physio for stretches to help and some simple massage techniques to do before you ride
