Back problem worsening- causing lameness?

As much as I don't like to say it my horse has mild KS. I know a lot of people don't believe in this and seem to think its a modern phase but my horse displays pain when he's ridden regularly and when he's being brushed, sweat scraped etc, X rays show a bone spur growing out of one vertabre into the next. Its nothing extreme but corresponds with his sore area so he's retired.
His back settled as it always did when he's not in work so I thought he'd be fine however recently I posted about a slightly odd lameness as in very intermittent and at strange times which to me didn't add up. I got him In last night for a good groom and noticed he's very sore in his back again. Could this be contributing to the strange lameness?
After posting about it I was advised to leave him out which I have done and he's sound outside its still just if I bring him in for a while. Id wondered if his knee's were becoming stiff but now I see his backs bad I wonder if its actually his back becoming stiff?
Its front leg lameness which is never there when a vet is (naturally!)
No heat, swelling etc. Will a KS type complaint worsen itself without the horse carrying weight? I'd hoped by retiring him I would halt any progression and keep him comfortable.

Well it's logical to assume that if he has a bone spur growing out of one vertebra into the next there will be times of intermittent pain (or continual pain) - and this could cause lameness.

However, back pain can also be caused by forelimb lameness. It may be worth asking your vet to nerve block the front legs.
 
Mm, his hocks click- they always have but never looks stiff behind.
Amymay I left him out the last few weeks since you suggested it and the lameness is significantly improved. It may be totally unrelated to his back its just a thought. Injections are due soonish so will speak to the vet then.
 
It's always such a worry op, and in your shoes I dont know what I'd do. Im so glad there's been some improvement since 24/7 turnout though. Maybe the best thing at this time would be to simply do a bute trial while you decide on whether you want to go down the more expense route.....
