I think that I need to invest in a back protector for when I go out playing over X country fences on the boy.

I'm after something that is not too restrictive, but obviously offers protection.

Any suggestions???

airowear zippa - rodney powell & racesafe seem to be the most popular here.

Depends on your shape which you will find comfiest.

Not sure who they are made by

I've got a Just Toggs ones, and used to have a bit of a phobia with BP's purely because my last one was uncomfortable and felt restricted but this ones great, I don't even know I'm wearing it when doing XC.

Plus, here the the good part, if you only petite in the body, size 6, 8 or possibly 10 (small bust etc) then you can easily fit into the children's XL size, as the adults were too big for me...plus i got it cheaper because of it being a childs!.....bonus!

Another vote here for Racesafe. The more parts that move the better. Therefore lots of small squares of foam are much more comfy than big rigid panels.

They seem quite bulk - and differing models - which do you wear?

I really like the look of the Airowear ones.

I XC in a Rodney Powell with shoulder pads - colours to spec etc - it was my 18th b.day prez (its still in standard though lord knows how!)
and when I Point2Pointed Ive a RaceSafe which is flexible and you can move in it (I also can move in the RP which I like best) Mum now wears the RS .
Best reccomendations the Rodney Powell - its the least bulky and keeps the boobs under control(!!!!)

Tried on a Kanteq thing at Badminton found it really heavy and bulky

love my rodney powell body protector. got it a couple of yrs ago in cross country colours with shoulder pads. Love it! wear it everytime i ride apart from light schooling a dressage comps. So comfy. And i don't get too warm in the summer either, though keeps me warm in the winter. Is the one i am wearing in my signature.

I found the three mentioned above - Airowear, RP and Raceway - I tried fit so differently it wasn't really a "choice" as only one fit me properly. (I might now be the most "off the rack" shape, admittedly.

) The latter two were too long in the back, with the Raceway also being too short in the front and there's not much you can do about length. I just generally didn't like the fit of the RP although comfort does not necessarily mean it does or doesn't fit safely.

I am very short but sort of roundish, and found that the Rodney Powell fitted the best. I tried the RP, Mark Todd and two different Champion ones. The Champion Cobra was actually the most comfortable, as it has multiple foam panels and side lacing adjustment, but it was just an inch or so too long in the back for me, which was quite aggravating.

If i was a couple of inches taller, i'd definitely go for the Cobra.

Just as an incidental, i found its really improved my sitting trot, for some reason.I couldn't begin to tell you why, perhaps it supports core muscles better.

i have a rodney powell with shoulder pads and love it! only wear it for XC but do not find it restrictive and it moulds to my body shape well

Which ones are good if you are skinny (6 to 8 clothes) short in the body, with rediculous sized boobs? I can't breathe in the one I have!

I certainly wouldnt class the rs 2000 as bulky. Its far from that in fact i can prove its so easy to forget your wearing it as i went to tescos in mine one day after going galloping on my own out hacking.

Its made of of small sections and tapered ouver the shuolders to give you freedom of movement. They will fit almost anyone as they can be made to measure and inm your own colours. Pricey at 120.00 and an extra 50.00 for the shoulder pads but im thrilled with mine

Here is a few pics of mine on.
