And I mean juniors!
Cs jumping debut (WH a few months ago) though successful (as in clear) resulted in some quite... large... jumps over comparatively small fences. To try to combat this we went to our local PC arena eventing (in the broadest sense of 'eventing'... ). It was a really well run little show with heights from poles on the floor to 90 with well supported classes of around 30. We 'only' did the 45 and the 60 as the aim was really to get him jumping more along and less up. If we're going to get technical even the 60 was 'under height' but that really wasn't the aim of the day, as such the pictures are rather unexciting but the progress is clear. We did manage a placing in the first class (tbh I have no idea if it was even optimum time or speed!) and had one fence down in the second- the jump4joy wavy planks so I was actually quite pleased he was confident enough to not pick his legs up.
An example jump of our first course:
and then Mondays first course:
clever pony:
and the next round:
= a much more sensible reaction to small fences . We've now 'met' pretty much everything and he has no issues with anything! Such a relief after a spooky and backwards at times previous horse.
Quite possibly most importantly we also coped with lots of standing around making fans:
We 'met' several children from babies up, coped with a relatively small warm up including jumps with everything from RS riders on sweet little mares to big unruly horses with little in the form of breaks other than our back end. All round an educational day for him. If he wasn't already fully booked with my other plans for him he does love his jumping! Sadly I doubt he'd get in 128s
In other news physically he's really starting to pick up:
quite different from his stud days before he started 'work' ! http://www.stallionsonline.co.uk/stallion_63182.html
and we've had a chance to really work on our driving and he's really starting to understand it:
though it does make us quite tired!
next outing for him is showing (inc. novice WH) on the St Georges day weekend Might even try to find a BDS (driving showing) show to go to after that!
