I love living near to places like this:)

Through the marsh of mystery
Photo0954.jpg

The primeval ooze, into which Henry fell shortly after this picture was taken:eek:

Out of the marsh in the woods, and into, um, more marsh. You whistled, boss?:D

Pretty pretty

Are we going to the beach again boss?

MY ROCK!

Through the pointy plants of prickliness:eek:

What big bird? Where?!
Photo0965.jpg

And past some ponies (can't stop to look at the camera, must eat more):D

Only 7.5 miles today, we are getting soft;)

Oh, and if I may preen for a moment, he recalled away from a terrier, a greyhound that was running about (good job as the off-lead grey was with an on lead rottie bigger than me:eek:) and another terrierist

Stop showing off with your super trained dog! The pictures of the gorse in flower has finally convinced me that the shrivelled up brown gorse on my drive is definitely dead.:(

Super-trained:p Hah! You see that huge, empty beach, about 2 miles of space in each direction? Shortly after that pic was taken, a family showed up with a picnic and plonked themselves within spitting distance of us. I'm sure you can fill in the gaps:mad::rolleyes:

They are all out to get me **checks obsessively behind the sofa for picnickers who may have set up there too**

lol, there was a slightly sloped section!:p

It is good for me though, is not aggravating the dodgy hip, ready for the big hills next month. Can't wait! I'm already planning all my routes - but do I do Kinder Scout on my tod, or stick to the side of the plateau that I know, and save the big one for when I have some company? I don't mind getting lost, but it's more fun to get lost in company, then you have someone to blame other than yourself:p

In fact I've just checked the map and I was 20 metres above sea level at a couple of points! Oh yes! Practically needed oxygen:p

PMSL - lugging around all that high-altitude gear won't do your trick knee any good! I would be lost without my rolling hills, I walk about permanently pitched a few degrees forwards. :p

LOL that's why I have Henry, he can carry my crampons for me in his little backpack:D I do miss hills: although I love walking around here too it is very different. The challenges are generally of the 'some sod has put barbed wire over the stile and grown a seven foot tall maize crop over the path!', or 'the waymarkers have vanished and they've diverted the path off the original route!' variety - though that said I had to give myself a refresher on taking a compass bearing when I got home this evening as I managed to muck one up today:o

Despite the flatness ( I too have that dodgy lean forward walk ;) ) that is a lovely area. :) The "pretty pretty" photo is gorgeous. :)

Picnics deserve to be raided :D

The advantage over the hills is that you can be walking and hear literally nothing but your footsteps, the wind in the vegetation and birdsong. Whereas in the Peak / Lake District, you'd get more peace on the M25 on the popular routes some days!

I like to think of Henry as a one-dog anti-obesity campaign;)

I'm starting to think you only post these threads to taunt the less fortunate with your wonderfully flat and beautifully photogenic local walks. It's just really, really mean to be honest.:p

On the other hand Kinder Scout is fairly local to me and on my 'to do' list, so I expect many pictures of that adventure please. :D

Sometimes I look back to where I used to live (Tooting Broadway) and I have to pinch myself at how nice it is here:)

Kinder Scout is great, you have to go!
Photo0506.jpg

Look at that for a view, and that's not even at the top:)

I think I got about 1/25 of the way up Kinder Scout and thought " Sod this" :D
I can manage Curbar Edge but that's about it!

Nooo it's great up there, so wild, and you can get properly full-on lost:D We did!:o

For this reason I think I will be walking up past the Mermaid's Pool to Kinder Downfall, round the Pennine Way and down by Red Brook, much easier to navigate:D I also want to go up Win Hill, will have to see how the hip holds up:)

Aw I used to ride up Curbar Edge way *has a happy, fond memory moment*

Spudlet, you've persuaded me to try Kinder Scout sooner rather than later. I may just strap Loki into the passenger seat of the roadster with lots and lots of rope to get him there.

I promise humorous pics to all should I attempt this. :p

Suffolk looks idyllic and a county Ive never visited. A lot of my ancestors came from Suffolk and is one of the worst counties for not having parish records on line.

I guess I may have to visit myself one day they came from Debenham & Wortham.

Is that a nature reserve you are walking on is does look very beautiful and after a very long walk Henry finished it off with a picnic. Very civilised.

I must admit Henry sounds perfect and puts mine to shame who have great recall unless they see deer, rabbits, pheasants and swallows. So not very often then:D

He's not often described as perfect, but he is perfectly imperfect, in my eyes at least:D He is an unreconstructed picnic thief though, he goes up to people all wiggly wiggly look how cute I am, then suddenly BANG! Their sandwiches are gone:o Slinky and Kirstyhen have seen him in action, as did everyone at the last AAD meet-up:o

Part of it is a nature reserve, part of it is just access / Forestry Commission land. He could be off-lead for most of it which was nice:)

ETA Wortham is a few miles away from where I live! :D
