So as you all know me and the Ludo saga had happened end again when I fell last week, hurting my hip.

Told I'm not going to be on a horse for a good number of weeks as tendons/ ligaments ripped away from bone.

So part of the problem was me being u seated over fences, so took Ludo to a pro show jumper today who has helped me with him and gives me lessons and he feels part of the issue is Ludo style over fence is not nice, he needs trained to use himself correctly he jumps very upright and like a plane taking off, kinda launching himself and he was doing it with him too, so he said its not helping me as its just not that comfortable over the fence,

But he said the rest of him nice and with a little schooling from him he believes he can make him able to help me out at fences and better as a team, and I was stuck as have no one to ride him while I'm off and I've invested so much time in him to leave him stood in field for 6 weeks not a option

So tomorrow he is off to stay with this man for 8 weeks training, gives me a chance to get better and hopefully, Ludo will be easier to sit to over a fence when he jumps more rounded instead of upright

He believes its not to hard to fix, just needs so work and a bit of education

This was him today having a quick loose school after the guy had ridden him as he wanted to see if he did same shape without rider

Do you see what he means about jumping too upright and not lowering his head.

I've said all along I don't want to spoil this horse and will get pro help every step of the way to do what's right by him as I bought a too young, green horse, it's a big learning curve and we are getting there but slowly slowly

So hopefully my next update will be end of July and we jumping much better over the larger fences,

He also feels he bored at the little fences and really puts no effort in, when they go up, his face lights up and he looks more interested, so hopefully we can maybe do NC over summer and fox by year end, he going to jump him in a few fox before he gives me him back all going well with him of course.

This guy has taught me for a number of years and helped me a lot confidence wise when I had my doubt he gave me faith back in myself that I was not a total dummy, just a dummy sometimes LOL

Well done. Great decision and can see exactly what pro means with pic of him loose. No wonder he is so awkward to sit to!!

Now get yourself to a good sports physio to sort out the banjaxed hip and also get core strength work started at the same time!!

Reg jumps like that- he doesn't bascule, but more steps. It's a long and quite hard process retraining him as it's what he's been taught to do (ex-racer!) but the difference in his jumping and rideability are already noticeable despite the changes being very gradual.

TBH I would say that ludo's bascule comes from lack of confidence - when they are confident and comfty & balanced, they can throw much better shapes. Easily fixed tho - hope this person makes him feel more comfortable and rideable into a fence :)

Sounds like a good plan.

It is out of order completely and I'm sure your pro will suggest it, but it might not be amiss to get a physio to have a look at him, paying particular attention to neck/poll, possibly shoulder. The pro will almost certainly have one he works with regularly. I'm not trying to alarm you, I don't think there's anything horribly wrong, just a feeling I've got looking at some of your pics.

Lovely horse and very sorry to hear about your accident.

No physical reason why he holds himself quite so tightly is there? I agree, he does look tricky to sit on!

TS our posts overlapped...!

^^ Good idea if only to eliminate the possibility of a problem. he is not 'basculing' over the fences and he looks like the type that should as he clearly has the athleticism there.

No not out of order Lol

I get Ludo checked every 3 months and have done since getting him, the last time was only two weeks, mind I mentioned about the specialist vet who is a muscular speciality type guy , who comes over from Europe was over he looked at him, and had not seen him for 6 month and was very pleased with him, found nothing wrong at all,

6 month before he had found him sore across his back area abit and thought it the saddle, which it was and we sorted, he felt his muscle was not good back then so when he came two weeks agai he was very pleased, not only with the fact he found no soreness anywhere but also that the muscle development had really improved and was coming in the right places.

I between his 6 monthly visits I get another person as I said I like it 3 months and his saddle checked 3 months

Her last visit she just thought he a bit tight on his bum, did some massage and showed me some stuff to do but generally was happy with him

As he used to buck of folks as a 4 year old esp me , so I was worried about something being wrong bit got vet to do a work up and found nothing.

I'm very much on top of constantly getting him looked at, my own vet was out doing teeth about 2 months ago and when he comes I always get him to have a prod about and trot up etc and he was happy with him too

So Defo nothing physical unless its happened in last 8 days as the guy from abroad only looked at him last Monday, I posted about it as was delighted as it was the first time he had a the full all clear not a single bit of sore muscles etc anywhere

Hey there :) Beautiful boy!

I don't really jump these days, but in the past found that improving carriage on the flat helps with a horse's bascule. Things like cavalleti, raised trotting poles, lunging in a pessoa and hill work should all help him use his back and hindquarters properly and develop his topline.

Others will probably tell you more, but once he starts working correctly on the flat it should carry through to showjumping!

As for being unseated when he jumps, have you done any bareback work or lunge lessons? I find both help a lot, especially working without stirrups in trot and canter. It's just down to the hours you put in really, but you should notice an improvement in your balance!

If I tried bareback or trot no stirrups on Ludo you would be lucky if I lasted a nano second lol he would buck me off I'm pretty sure

When I had my original accident 18months ago when ludo was away being pro schooled I was getting lunge lessons at a school with no stirrups they thought I was quite good balance, I then moved on to lessons on a GP dressage horse which I still get monthly to help with my position in general , learning correct aids for lateral work etc and learning how it feels to ride a horse in the correct way

It's done wonders for me in my flat work, I think so as does the girl who horse it is when I first Rode him I could hardly even get him to trot , now i can do extended trot , 3 time changes, walk to canter to walk, half pass etc so the schoolmaster lessons are fab . Such a shame I can't find a jump school master to be taught on .

Just wanted to say glad you are on the mend although sounds pretty horrible and that your horse is a lucky boy to have found you. With all the time and effort you are investing, not to mention the money, I'm sure we'll be seeing reports in the not too distant future of you flying around humoungous jumps on his.

I also wanted to thank you. Your thread last week made me get out and be really determined in my SJ lesson to work with my pingy young horse and we actually jumped a course and I didn't fall off!

Onwards and upwards hopefully for both of us.

And thanks for your nice words, yeah I really hope I succeed with Ludo and if I don't I know I've put my all into not much more than we can do than try our best.
