Rose was just coming up to the point of starting canter work but her hock became hot and swollen again. She's had a week off with just hand walking and was seen by the vet again today. Sadly her collateral ligament is again showing signs of damage and we are back to two months of box rest with hand walking. Poor Rose! We've no idea how she damaged herself in the first place and she had been showing a good recovery. It is so disappointing but vet still gives a good prognosis so we soldier on with fingers and toes crossed. Bloody horses are such a worry and tbh I am pretty gutted!

. Fingers crossed it is just a small hiccup in the road

ETA: mixed metaphors help in these situations right?!

Thanks for your kind posts, I'm feeling better this morning. I've been incredibly lucky over the years never to have had an injury requiring a long rehab so I need to learn some patience! A friend has said to go over to hack out her ex FEI pony. He's a lot of fun but basically very safe and I've been looking at Jill Carenza's over at Broadway as somewhere suitable for getting a bit of a horsey fix. Any other ideas would be gratefully received. I do need something sensible though as although feeling heaps better I'm still on the dreaded anticoagulants! Anyway, Rose couldn't be at a better yard for rehab, the staff are really great and even without my input Rose will get walked and iced four times a day and her stable, with it's outside area is perfect for an extended box rest and I have plenty of sedalin!

A friend has a horse at Jill Carenza’s having hacked and had eventong hirelings from there for years before getting her own. It sounds like a lovely place.

Obviously there’s also Talland and Prestige (Summerhouse) for more dressage-y options too. I’d offer a ride on Danny but that would be a bad idea after his antics yesterday!

Ah that’s so frustrating when you do it right but you get a curve ball. But horses do seem particularly good at doing that. Fingers crossed for better progress.
