hey

So this is what has happened for those that don't know.
My 13 1/2 year old jack rus cross has had a cough for ages so we took him to the vet 3 weeks ago that said that he had a level 2 heart murmur and maybe an infection so sent us home with antibs and steroids.
and to come back the following week, We went back last week and there was no improvement so they put him onto ventamedin (might be wrong sorry totally stressed) and if no improvement then to phone on monday and to bring him in for tests.
So i phoned on tues morning and said he was coughing last night and the morning and they wanted to see him then, i have no car at the moment as i am not allowed to drive after an accident on my horse. but i promised we would bring him in today.

so we arrived first thing this morning and he was going to have blood tests and x-rays and we would get a phone call between 2.30-3pm
3.30 had no phone call so rang the vet and was told to come in for an appointment at 5.45.

you know when you have the knot in your stomach well ive had that all day

so turned up with hubby and we were taken down to see the x-ray,

so long story short my dog has an egg shaped tumur in his lung he has no more than 6 months to live. i am so upset i can not stop crying i have been saying for ages that i knew he was poorly...

The vet was lovely she has put him onto antibs for 10 days and he will now be on steroids for the rest of his life. i am devestated we have had him since he was 5 weeks old he is beautiful how am i going to cope with out my best friend.

thank you for letting me cry to you all.

So sorry to hear this, its all our worst nightmare I think. Enjoy the time you have left with him and remember you have already given him 13 wonderful years, he is a lucky dog to have had you from beginning to end. Hopefully the steriods keep him stable enough to enjoy plenty more fun times in the coming months. Huge hugs x

Oh N I am so sorry :( Can't believe he is this poorly. I was really expecting the vet to say that he has a chest infection and would need stronger antibiotics, not this :(

You know where I am if you need me ((hugs))

Im really sorry to hear about your dog, but please dont take this the wrong way dont grieve for him now. I made this mistake and it did cloud our last few months together until I made the realisation and made every day count as a blessing. Take every day as a gift and go and enjoy your dog ,he deserves it and so do you. Hugs to you.xx

thank you for that Dobiegirl that makes a lot of sense. i have told him that paddy my horse is coming back from the field next week. so we will have less time to stew.
i will make the most of this time.
:D

I'm a bit lost .. is this the poorly dog? If so - he is lovely, and looks very happy!

DG has spoken some very wise words, I know they'll be hard to take on board though.

I wish you many more happy memories together x

thank you crazy friesian yes he is my poorly baby.
Im all cried out now and i am letting him enjoy his time with us. Everyday we have fun no more tears its true i was acting like he had already gone :(

But i am glad you all got to see how beautiful he is. he is with 2 of my kids he always has to be involved :D:D

Thank you again Crazy......... big hug ......

He looks like a very handsome much loved boy, I hope the vets are able to keep him comfortable and he can enjoy the rest of his life with you. Hugs to you I know how painful this is for you.

I've only just seen this post. I'm really sorry to hear your dog is so poorly. It is a hard thing to watch a much loved pet become ill. I'm sure you will know when the time is right to let go so please try to make his last months with you as comfortable and fun as you and he can manage. He looks a really lovely character in the photo.
