My 4 year old whippet has really bad breath. We've tried everything from changing his food to doggy toothpaste. any one else have this problem:/ advise please:) x

Has the vet had a look? Normally bad breath means the teeth need scaling and polishing, with possible extractions - it is very rare for a dog to have bad breath without having bad teeth as well.

It could be a couple of things. Our collies never get bad breaths despite being 8 and 13/14. The 5 year olds do from time to time though and it can be awful. For us, it means we need to clear out their anal glands. it's not pleasant and the vet can do it for you if you don't want to do it yourself...best get them to do it and show you anyway if you don't know how to do it.

Other reasons can be gum disease, infection, decay and eating poo to name a few...there's really lots of causes for bad breath and I am sure someone with more knowledge than me can come along and advise but I would suggest a general check up with the emphasis on this at the vet when you can.
