Hi
Has any one had a bad experience with a horse dealer in the UK? I have had a very bad experience with a horse dealer in the Yorkshire area.

I had a near miss with one, but then found a brill one in Manchester. My sister in law kept telling me that not all dealers are bad and she was right in the end.

Whats happened?

I thionk people have to realise that horse dealers are the car dealers of yesterday.... there are reputable ones & there are those that are not so reputable.... simple as that really.

I have bought privately, I've bought at Auction & bought from a dealer & so far I have not had any problems

...... OMG I'm so lucky....I'm off to buy a lottery ticket... I can't lose!

I've had a bad experience, wanted to take it further (trading standards were interested), but my vet advised me not to, as he knew the dealer and his "connections" and that it could lead to a "dangerous dark car park incident".

Will never buy from a dealer again!

I have had a very bad experience with a dealer in Norfolk and then someone posing as a private seller who actually sells for a dealer with a bad reputation in Essex. I always said I would never buy from a dealer again however my new horse was bought from a dealer who was fantastic - they are in Derbyshire and I would recommend them to anyone. I think you just have to go by word of mouth

I have just posted my experience abotu a dealer in Aberdeenshire. It has been an awful experience. You have my full sympathy. I believe that if you are honest and trusting then you expect people to behave the same way. Not always so unfortunately. I do think people need to speak up as word of mouth is the only way these people will be able to stop ripping off innocent, honest folk.

i had a bad experience with a dealer in southern ireland sold me something that it was not i spent 6 weeks on crutches so once bitten and all that.

go with your gut ive done that with my new horse and he is amazing.

lochpearl, say no more !!!!!! terrible place and horrible people, both of them.
wouldnt go back there if it was the last place on earth.

Both of mine have come from dealers. Absolutely fine. I bought another horse from a breeder and had to return it due to it being unfit for intended purpose. Even that was made easy by the reasonable breeder.

I would definitely buy again from a dealer, but only one I know of or is recommended to me

bought one horse as a homebred from his breeder- turned out to be an experienced napper. new horse came from a dealer who you would have heart failure about if you could see the yard but he's a real gem...i think you just have to be careful when buying horses full stop- there are bad dealers and bad private sellers, just as there are good ones!
