He's never done it before; I was riding in the woods on quite deep sand, when my lad dropped like a stone and I only just rolled off in time before he was flat on his side, rubbing his head in the sand! Queue me whacking him like crazy before my lovely expensive saddle got flattened; the barsteward totally ignored me and completed his sandy luxuriating before deigning to get back up. Luckily the saddle seems OK, no damage done- I got the giggles about it but its very naughty isn't it? He's a 16.2hh Irish sports horse FGS not a Welsh mountain pony!! Mind you, I did see a couple of hunters flopping down in muddy gateways out hunting this season..

My friend's horse did this on the beach. She said 'My feet seem to be touching the floor' and surprise surprise her horse had buckled at the knee and was on his way down. His excuse was that he is 22 and he now feels as an oap he can push the boundaries! Hope you're ok, scarey when it happens, particularly unexpectedly!

My boy has done it several times when I'm leading him, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed he doesn't decide to do it mid-ride as I imagine I won't find it quite so funny!! Gotta love horses!!

My friends pony used to do this in water, at any sight of a stream he would gallop off and roll! She learnt to dismount and remove saddle extremely quickly :D

One of my hunting friends said her horse started doing it after she took her to swim on the beach...don't know what set my lad off though; think it was the hot weather made him itchy!
