Sleepless night. listening to the rain drumming down outside, knowing that my new horse was in the field naked in it! I would not normally be so precious, but the poor lad has been rugged up to within an inch of his life until now! Previous owner forgot to put his rugs in the lorry when she delivered him, so I don't have anything to put on him - and all the tack shops are closed!

Its not terminal - he can come in at night. Just a pity, as he loves being out 24/7. Felt so guilty last night that I got a cab over there (my car is currently broken!) at midnight to get him in. He thought I was an axe murderer and ran away every time I got anywhere near him (this is a horse who trots up and sticks his head in the headcollar usually!) so I had to give up and leave him out.

I appear to have turned fluffy in my old age!!!

Bless him! Mines out rugless and with a muzzle on :D and he hates the rain.

I am telling myself all the things I'd tell anyone else "Hes a horse, he won't dissolve", "He's waterproof", "At least he can move around in the field and keep himself warm", "Stop being ridiculous" etc etc!!!!

He is probably enjoying it if he has been rugged up to his eyeballs up to now and I will repeat he is a horse he is waterproof, he has his own central heating in his belly and he will move round to keep him self warm!

Any better? :p

Yeah! Previous owner lol'd when I told her, and said he was a tough old b***er!!

Bless you - maybe "fluffy" will come to us all in the end:rolleyes:

If it makes you feel better, even my 2 whimpy thoroughbreds have not washed away, although they do have martyred looks about them. I'm sure he'll survive.

Failing that - is there anyone that you could borrow a lightweight rug from for a few days, so that you feel better?

I don't really know anyone well enough to ask, but think I'll bring him in at night for a couple of days, and buy him a new one on Wed.

I know!!! Flippin heck - Aus used to live out all year round, full clipped in the winter, and only ever wore a MW when temp dropped below freezing, and a LW only when clipped! What's happened to me????

Proud new mum syndrome, other signs to watch out for are religiously buying colour coded (sorry, I can't bring myself to say 'matchy-matchy' ;) ) tack and equipment, grooming so hard the horse goes bald, repeated visits just to pat the pony and feed carrots, and continually reorganising the aforementioned tack collection. I'm sure others can add to the list...

I'm only guilty of the pony patting/carrot scenario at the moment! I've brushed him twice, which is a record for me in one week!
