Just received a text at work from a friend who is the head groom at the large livery yard where I keep my horse, saying she has handed in her notice and is leaving - I am devastated.

She is a lovely girl and works hard. All the liveries get on with her and she has a very good attitude towards the horses, who love her too. She is one of those reliable sorts and a lot of people speak to her if they have a problem as they know she will know the answers before anyone else.

You know who you are my friend, and I'm sure I speak for everyone else from NWL when I say you will be sadly missed. Good luck in your new role and make sure you keep in touch, you still have a job to do with SJ my boy at SRC so don't forget!!

It's always a shame when decent people move on. Hope that her replacement proves to be another great head girl.

Yeah hopefully but they could also be a load of rubbish too. I just hope my horse is looked after as well by the next person.

Trouble is with a lot of these yards, is that they just dont want to pay....

I know a young girl (17) who is in a working pupil position (cough, cough).

She works 6 days a week 8 till 5 or longer if eventing etc.
Works every Sat and Sun. Which i think is wrong.

She get £100.00 per wk. Very rarely gets a lesson. She wont be there much longer, and its such a shame as she only wants to work with horses but would like a little bit back in return. She has never had any opportunities before, as her parents are completely non horsey and not terribly supportive

Or if they want just a [****] shoveller then they should pay her at least the minimum wage.....

Not saying thats what has happened in your case, but people cant live of nothing.

That sounds familiar of my friend. She is the Head Girl at her yard and has also just handed her notice in. It was a very tough decision for her as she has been working at the yard for about 5 years now I think. She is leaving to try other things (that pay 'real' money)

pay on yards is crap. I was paid £10 per day, working 7 till 5.30 to more if shows etc dictated. When i asked for a raise i was offered £12.50 per day
