Soooo bruce is not going to dressage tomorrow owing to his acrobatics in the school last night.

He keeps running away in canter - my instructor was in fits of giggles (hmmm) as I had to do a pony club style pull up (ie yank) after he ***ucked off with me in the school for the fourth time.

If I dont hold him, and relase the rein and relax, he pisses off bucking, which is nice.

I literally have to do an hours work to get him to chill. When he is tired, he works really really well. I just have to get him to that point. Which takes a while AND I have to go through all the rigmorol of canter/gallop feet everywhere.

He is also very very spooky at the moment, and generally being a git. It feels like I am riding a well schooled horse with a fresh 4 year old mentality.
He also enjoys combining spooking, spinning and then pissing off bucking in canter. Which is nice.

He is sound, back fine, etc it really is naughtiness but I dont know how to stop it.

He is currently...

Out once a week (jumping/showing/dressage/long hack to the downs whatever)
Schooled (flat three times, twice by me, once by trainer)
Hacked twice locally - 45 mins

He is fed
Adlib hayladge
1/2 scoop hifi
3/4 scoop pony nuts twice a day

Snack ball with nuts (3/4 scoop) overnight

He used to be on 3/4 scoop oats and conditioning mix when he was skinny! And better grazing and ad lib hayledge!!!

What to do? Its not nice being 20 feet in the air

I have never had this problem with him! LOL!

Blame the grass?
My boy went through a spell of this a few weeks back but is fine now? Can you increase his turnout at all?

Has he had his teeth/back looked at? Saying that my mare is like that at the moment so I just lunge before I ride atm - saves arguing with her

have you got some lovely lush grass at the mo? could be that. also i found that H & P nuts were quite bad for heating my mare. i switch to spillers fibre nuts which were fine.

Really work him before you get on him. My mare gets like this and if I think she is in one of those moods I lunge her on side reins for about 20 mins, let her have a good bucking fit, get rid of all the energy and start working. Then when I get on her she is concentrating and ready to go. What is your horses turnout like? Is he in every night or out? Sometimes being in all year winds them up (if your boy is stabled overnight).

He sounds EXACTLY like legend about 3 weeks ago!! He has chilled out again now but I have put it down to the loony grass.. i've not known anything like it, seen normally completely sane cobs dumping their riders left right and centre

I would put a strap on the front of the saddle, sticky bum jods and hold on tight!!
