Hi,
decided to spray new horse today as he has come with lice

. I did a spot check on him yesterday and no bad reaction. Mixed up the solution this morning as per instructions and started to apply. He wasnt to keen on the spray but a handful of pony nuts did the trick. However about 5 mins in he seemed to have a really bad reaction and his muscles were all a dither and he was really very agitated. I stopped and tried to calm him down but it really did seem to be aggravating him so i have turned him out half way through. His front legs were all twitchy and he is now sulking in his field, i dont think he loves me anymore

He seems to have stopped twitching now but just wondered if anyone else had ever had this? It wasnt temper at the spray, he really did seem bothered by the deosect

I guess it could have been that but he was acting qute oddly, really twitchy and hyper he seemed to be panicking and very anxious.

Hi my horse had a reaction to deosect. He was fine the first time used but on the the second application some weeks later, within half an hour his skin was very irrated and he would not stop rolling (itching). I ended up having to bath him in a tea tree shampoo to remove it and try and soothe the skin. Although he generally hates being bathed, he actually was grateful.

Probably best to keep an eye on your horse. Hope he is o.k.

Its at times like this that i am grateful i keep him at home so i can keep a good check on him (i can actually see him while im on the computer). He isnt twitching now and just seems *issed off with me, not in a nasty way just kinda sulking

He's eating his grass now so will see how he it pans out. Im abit worried about applying the second solution in a fortnight though.

I had a mare (grey one in avatar) who had a really bad reaction to Deosect. The vet decided to treat her with it when she had come in from the field with bad fly bites so he threw it all over her. Where it ran too the skin blistered and sloughed off. It was horrendous and took months to heal - so I'd always do a small test patch before using anything like that again.

Could i ask how long the blisters took to come up? I did do a test yesterday and there wasnt any reaction and i followed the instructions, 10ml to 500ml of water. I just feel really bad cos he is a new horse and we were bonding really well and now he dosent want to know me

Hers came up within 2 hours, you basically could see the skin 'popping' away from her body. Nothing the vet could do to stop it. It was an extreme reaction.
Sounds like you did your best to avoid it happening, I think it can feel quite uncomfortable going on, kind of oily and tickly!

thanks for all your help and advice. I have come to the conclusion that though it may have felt abit odd his reaction was abit OTT as there is no sign of irritation and he hasnt been rolling or itching. He has now decided that he kinda likes me again as i am the one who feeds him and food is king!!
