this happened to a horse we tried out. on all right hand bends he fell over even though he loaded fine and didnt seem bothered. when we rode him it looked as though he was lame on his right hind and a more experienced person who we brought with us suggested that he had a weak hind end and he was unable to support himself on these bends. since we have found this was the case in a vetting he had for someone else.

did you have him vetted? obviously this could not be the case, just it was with this one x

yeah he passed a 5* vetting, was quite a pricey horsey so wasn't taking any chances. he doesn't fall just scrambles around abit with both back legs. I am taking him out for another trip tommorow so will try with moving the partition.

what did he travel in before? perhaps if it was a lorry or wagon or a trailer where he stood sideways he isnt used to this new way of standing so is just taking time to get used to it?

Agree, take the partition out and put full length breast and breach bars in. I used to tie up to the left hand tie ring (looking in from the back) and she travelled stood diagonally across the trailer. You could also cross tie but I wanted to allow her to stand diagonally and felt by cross tying she couldnt do this unless she was tied really loose.
You could also try removing the back part of the partition to allow room for your horse to spread his legs to balance, Ive heard this helps too.
Theres been loads of posts about this problem so you are not alone.

yeah he was delivered in a lorry but apparently has been in a trailor before, so i think will just have to keep up with the little trips. I just wondered if anyone else had any experiences with partition moving?

hi look at my old posts.our new horse had always been in a lorry we have a 505 ifor williams, bought a full length breast and breech bar and cross tied her.they often need room to splay their back legs to balance and position themselves diagonally across the trailer.with the partition in i couldnt move the trailer but last week we did a 25 mile trip with not a murmur and everyone had advised me to take partition out.

my 15.2 horse stands with his legs splayed in the 505 trailer which helps him balance, theres room as hes in with our 14.2 but as yours is bigger, i agree with removing the partition, good luck =]

We recently got our mare back from loan. She had travelled for several years with us in a trailer with no problems but now cannot stand up on a left hand bend and really panics.
We got the full width breast and breech bars and haven't had any trouble since. She looks a bit funny with her legs spread out when you take the ramp down but she is quite happy.
Dunno how we'll manage if we ever need to take another horse anywhere though........
