I read in the Telegraph over the weekend that the Somerset Tourism Board has been inundated with copy and paste letters from the animal rights brigade claiming that they will be cancelling holidays on Somerset as a protest against the badger cull. Whilst I can't help thinking fewer mung bean eaters and townies on the moor will be a good thing I feel for the businesses who are in the crossfire of this issue.

Might I be so bold as to suggest that those forumites who enjoy their forays to Exmoor either for the hunting or for other reasons contact the beleagured Tourism Board to express their support for the county.

I have just had a lovely response from their Chief Executive thanking me for my support.

Those forum readers who have never been to Exmoor should seriously consider it for their staycation this year.

I would be most surprised to find that the animal rights lot ever go to the West Country on holiday, so I suspect that it's a hollow threat, just as it would be if they threatened to withhold their income tax, as very few of them actually pay it! ;)

And yes, of course I'll do as you suggest, and contact the board.

Alec.

Of course, Visit Somerset have total executive control over the badger cull, and Somerset Country Council are powerless to stop the tyranny of VS...

To be honest, the less Guardian reading loonies we have round here the better, it's bad enough with Glastonbury just down the road... *tongue in cheek*
