I have just read with interest the proposed incentives for competitors for this coming year at Badminton. If the price money is to be increased and improvements made to the track, main arena, warm up area, new toilets and showers for competitors and no entry fee - who will be funding this? Will it be us the general public via our entrance fees, was it just me or was £22.00 each plus a sneaky £10.00 for parking a little bit expensive - particularly when 25% of the competitors withdrew. Luckily it was glorious weather.

Your views please

Same article in H&H also says that the entrance fees are going to remain the same for 2008 as they were in 2007, rather than the usual rise by the rate of inflation - so the answer is, I guess no it won't be us the general public!

I think the entrance fees are rather steep as it is. It may well be that will be one of the reasons why I go to Barbury or somewhere else next yr.

Barbury (if it's Barbury Castle HT you're talking about) is nowhere near the scale of Badminton. I live slap between the two, so went to both this year - was gutted at Barbury, only about 8 trade stands (most of these painters/cheap tack). Spectacular views of the XC course though, but certainlu nowhere near badminton's league!

Yes I realise it's a smaller event. Still, I can do my shopping online and it's great to be closer to the horses. I also went to Blenheim last yr and I really enjoyed that. For me, I may take a yr off Badminton as I need a breather from the crowds, the traffic jams and the entrance prices.

in that case, Mickey, it sounds like just what you're after! As I say, the views are wonderful - you'd go some to beat the Marlborough Downs, IMO. OH and I sat and watched the dressage, and its true, you can get so close! It's a lovely event, as long as you dont mind the lack of shopping!

You really can't beat Badminton though, theres nowhere else like it. Spectator entry fees are a bit steep yes but I've always had such a fab day it's not really caused me to moan!

I didn't go to Badminton 2007 but 2008 is going to be very much trial and error in a lot of ways after last years bad press, but I think the improvements will be much needed.
