I read somewhere (reply comment to Lucinda Green Telegraph article) that Burgley put revenue back into BE and the sport, where as Badminton is a private business and doesn't put any money back???
So where does all the money Badminton makes go???????? It cost £76 to get 3 people and 1 car in on Sat, and there were hundreds of thousands of people there!!!

Burghley is a BE event hence BE fence on the SJ they usually have - I think Badminton is a stand alone event. I was wondering about all the money the other day as well!

So if they have so much money and none has to go back to BE (assuming they pay some sort of basic levy though), why could they not have spent a bit more on the ground. If they're not careful Burghley will overtake them as the most prestigeous 3 day. I didn't know about the irrigation system until I think Mary King mentioned it at the weekend.

Suspect that the irrigation system at Burghley is generally a lot more necessary than Badminton in a usual year - Burghley is at the end of the summer - a time you expect to be dry, Badminton is at the end of April/beginning of May, right after the usual April showers.

All too often Badminton is a mudbath - so up until now they've relied on what falls from the sky rather than artificial irrigation systems. Wouldn't be surprised if they add on over this summer/winter though...
