So for once I actually remembered to get online and book tickets for xc day, and then start to look for somewhere to stay.....(I can hear you all laughing already at my lack of planning).....there is nowhere to stay at all on May 1st! I've gone through all the top end hotels (remortgage reqd) to the B&Bs, and everyone is booked up. Really don't fancy camping or sleeping in the car..

So any last minute rescue plans for me please guys? Any suggestions at all?

And just how far in advance should I have done this - seems like people book from year to year.

Don't wish to appear smug but we always book a year in advance at the same place and most of the hotel guests appear to do the same as its the same old faces! We started doing it like this as years ago we came accross the same prob as you plus could find nowhere that did a one night stay (esp not XC night) and many just do a min 3 night stay. Could you camp? I know there are some Caravan club sites nearby. Sometimes staying somewhere less pretty but bit further out may be an option ie Swindon or similar?! Alt ring the tourist board to look for cancellations? Good luck am sure you will find something!

The travel lodges at Cirencester and Swindon have rooms for that weekend still, they are reasonably priced. There is also a Premier Inn or travelodge at Stroud which isn't too far

i'm sure if you look a little further you'll get very nice B&B or small hotel - Look under towns of Chipping Sodbury, Tetbury, Wotton-U-edge, Berkeley, Thornbury all within very easy drive - i personnel would avoid anything below M4 due to traffic conditions, BUT Bath is a very good option with lots of B&Bs, BUT be prepared for early drive or to sit in huge traffic jam

I know quite a few people who live in Hillesley and surrounging villages so could send you a PM

OR

I'm sure there'll be spaces at the B+B on the yard where I keep my horse. Less than 20mins to Badminton (may be a little more in traffic) but I'm sure you could lift share with some of us on the yard!

Youth Hostles. My friend and I only decided 2 weeks before Badminton we were going, and managed to find a Youth Hostle about 25 minutes away. You won't have to remortgage the house either as it was only £11 a night!!! There are several Youth Hostles in the area (look on the YHA website), the one we stayed in was also a Pub and Restaurant, so that was evening meal and entertainment sorted!!!!

thank you Jay89, I've looked at the links and they all look fab. I've fired off a lot of enquiry forms and will set here in hope! Lacock looks lovely - and doesn't seem to far on the map. thanks x

WOW! So many lovely replies - thanks for all the responses. And bless you Kareef; I would take you up on it, but i'm sure you don't want my snoring dad, his new bird, me and my 11 yr old daughter, so we'll leave you in peace! Appreciate the offer though xxx

Angelbones...LOL!! We've actually got 2 rooms free at the moment, but the snoring? Your dad, my OH and our dog, I'd be sleeping at the yard in the tack room probably.

But if anyone else gets desperate give me a shout, we've alway got space here.

I'd image coming from Lacock would be quite busy and take a fair time given all the extra traffic??

The traffic is really not that bad. I found it much worst coming from Bristol direction. Takes us about 50mins!! But Lacock is lovely, that its a lovely place to stay and well worth it!

Good luck with your search for a place to stay!! Can't believe its time to think badders is nearly here again!!

the thing is, you only have to be in the vicinity for getting up and getting their early not to be too much of a hardship to miss the traffic. If we aim to get there for 9am on xc day or a bit before we have no traffic issues.
