Badminton - Too Expensive?

I was shocked by the cost of tickets for Badminton today. I went with my OH in one car and my family went in another car. £58 to get in for me and my OH. £24 per person PLUS £10 for a car. The cost of 3 of my family members in another car came to over £80.

Does anyone else think that this is absolutly extortionate??

My OH and I spent £60 in petrol getting there and back so the day cost us £120 just to get there and get in. The fact that we can afford it isn't the point, I actually think that it's not worth it. It's sad because I know of people who used to go every year but they simply cannot afford to go anymore.

I know that a lot of effort/time/money gets put in to the event but at the end of the day I walked round a park in the rain. I barely got to see the horses that close as there was so many people round the more interesting fences. I had a good time but only because for that price I was determined to make the most of it!

I think a more realistic price would be £20 per person and NO extra for a car OR £15 per person and £10 per car, I think that is still generous but not so bad that it feels like a piss take.

At these prices i'm not going next year. I'd rather sit with a duvet and a take away in the warm and enjoy the action with better viewing on the T.V, for free, at home.

Tend not to go to Badminton, as it is quite a distance from us and would cost a fortune in fuel, Burghley is much closer, but OH and I tend to go on the Thurs, much cheaper to get in, walk the course, outside the ropes of course, but it gives a good view and an idea when it come to watching it on TV. We also take the days and drink with us in a cool bag and eat far too much. Works out much cheaper and give me more money to spend in the shops!

Cannot agree more - if you have children milk the under 12 - i get in still as a 16 y/o as a 'under 12' i feel they'd have a lot more people come if they put there prices down a little

Whilst i think Badminton is waay to pricey - I think Bramham is expensive, and that imho has more going on to watch anyway. The fact is, they don't want more people at badminton i wouldn't think - judging by the OP - its way to crowded anyway. :(

Plus, would never do to have poor people like me there - i mean, i would look so out of place without any dubarrys or joules clothing ;) ;D

Didn't go to Barbury last year as it was getting too expensive, especially as my daughter aged 15 would have been full price.

I'm 17 and got in for free, I always have done at Badminton, Blenheim and Gatcombe (I must look like a child :o:o)
Tickets are getting very expenisve, expecially for cross country, but it's not just tickets, lots of stands put their prices up today compared to yesterday and friday:o

It is very expensive but on a par with entry to say Alton Towers...

Certainly doesn't put people off! Although I made the decision to go Friday and see the Dressage, Grass Roots Champs and also be able to browse the trade stands in relative quiet before watching it on the red button today. That way got to see far more of everything and didn't spend so much.

It is way too expensive for me - I went to Burghley last year and that was so much better for us. Plus I wouldn't like the crowds, I go to see whats going on and am not that tall so it can be difficult. For this reason I always watch Cheltenham on TV too, although I do miss the atmosphere. I had a fab day on the sofa watching Badminton today.

i bought my ticket in advance and saved £2, i was prity ****** off when the billed me £2 for p+p. i suppose it is ok if you buy tickets in advance in bulk!

I went on friday, got some great sale items in the shops, walked the xc and saw some great dr. then spent today under a duvet by the fire and saw most of the horses go round lots of fences, not just the odd fence.

I don't think its expensive at all. When you think of the cost to see any other top level sport, football, rugby etc. the cost of tickets per person and parking far exceeds Badminton or Burghley. Plus, the 'entertainment' only last 2 hours. At a horse trials, you can spend all day there and there's lots to look at and do. They are always lenient with the children rule (I got asked once to 'check' whether my brother was really sixteen when I tried to be honest and pay for him!) My husband who is non horsey loves going to Burghley every year and I took my Dad to Badminton yesterday for a treat - we had a lovely day and you don't have to buy the expensive food there, you can take your own and picnic! Yes it seems expensive but in comparison to the £50 a ticket my husband paid to see Everton lost in the FA cup final last year, I know what I think is better value for money. Where else can you see so many Olympic competitors compete and get so close to the action?

I didn't actually think that Badminton XC day was as busy this year as in previous years.. although it was still hard to see for a short arse like me :D

I actually do not think Badminton is comparable to something like the FA cup final... I went to the FA cup Final a year/2 years ago when Pompey were playing and I had a lovely 3 course meal with white table cloth and free wine. I had great seats under cover and I thought it was much more worth it than Badminton for terms of price (sorry!).

I can go to Twesledown which is down the road from me and watch top riders for £10. I can get much closer, can almost touch them! There are also no crowds. I can go to my local Point to Point and have a great time for £5.

I think its too Expensive and unless the weather is guaranteed to be amazing I dont think im going next year. I think they are being very very greedy, they must be raking it in with all those trade stands as well.
