Due to there being no Brish Open show jumping next year (BOOOOOO!!) my friend and I are thinking of where to go for our annual 'horsey' jolly out next year.

Been reading up on both Badminton and Gatcombe and was wondering what preferences people had in terms of action, value for money, stalls, displays, members area etc.....

Any opinions greatly received please

For action - and fabulous setting and viewing - I'd also consider Barbury Castle. It really is amazing - you probably see more horses in a couple of hours than you will in 6 hours at Badminton. The shopping is much more limited though:-)

Gatcombe I think is better for watching the xc. There is a hill you can stand on and watch the horses go all the way round jumping lots of fences. Its also not quite as busy with people as Badminton.

At Gatcombe you get more classes to watch and the shopping is OK. Badminton is much more heavy on the shopping and there is only the one class. Also have a think about Blenheim as that offers a good mix of both - a big XC course making a nice walk, set in great landscape, with all sorts of other attractions plus half-decent shopping.

Another vote for Gatcombe... less set up for 'non horsey' people ie pretty much all shopping is horsey related and it's more friendly in my book... also it really is a beautiful setting.

Gatcombe for me too! Badmington is so expensive and there are so many people that you can't just have a nice walk around the xc course and watch the riders go by. Love Gatcombe, a season ticket (free parking) is cheaper than going for just the xc day at Badmington!

Somehow I always end up at Badminton and then by the time it's Gatcombe I'm broke but yes if I thought about it I would definitely say Gatcombe is better

I'd say badminton if your interest in eventing is casual as there's a lot of other stuff going on

Gatcombe if you're really into you eventing because of all the different levels going on.

They're both fab though and every horsey person should go to badminton at least once in their lives.

Gatcombe is cheaper, more friendly, better shopping and the xc is better to view. I also love watching the young event horse class!

However, the atmosphere at Badminton is brilliant!
