I'm still sulking because I couldn't go to Badminton this year because I'm smack bang in the middle of exams and dissertation deadline has been looming! This year I thought I'd give Burghley a go (never been because Badminton is so close!) and wondered how people compare them. Just being nosy really (and maybe possibly procrastinating from doing the tables to go in my dissertation report :D)

ETA also this is my first post in TR, did a little hello in CH, but hello TR!!! :)

I've been to both, I actually find Burghley a little more personal - not sure if it does have lower attendance but it seems quieter - you can get to the fences easily and get a seat in the food court watching the land rover fence.
Big downside is you can't camp at Burghley - so unless you've booked accomodation now you might find it tricky to get there.

Much prefer Burghley! Especially sitting with a Pimms in the members bit after 4 glorious days of competition watching the fly past - emotional.

Love the young horse competitions too. If I had to choose I'd always take Burghley over Badminton but it's a personal choice.

Been to both and Butghley is my personal favourite (although we've been to Badmonton far more often as you can camp there!)

I think burghley has a better XC course and it feels friendlier somehow

I did wonder if it was a bit quieter, been watching YouTube videos of it (my only horsey fix until after my exams and I can get back to my lessons!) and it did seem less packed. Badminton looked crazy busy on the TV.

It is a shame about the camping though. My boyfriend lives in Norwich so was going to go from there, which I know is still a bit of a trek, but it's better than from Bristol! I thought we might stay somewhere nearby and have a bit of a holiday round there somewhere.

Neither! The 3rd 'B' Bramham is by far the best of them! :) Much more to do and watch aside from the main event and actual REAL hills on the XC not just man-made ones! :D
I prefer the atmosphere too and accessibility to the SJing arenas. I was hugely disappointed when I went to Badminton XC day and once went to Burghley on the SJing day. Couldn't get to view the arena as too busy and was told we could watch it on the screens in the members area! Er, I could do THAT at home and it wouldn't cost me the same amount!! Thankfully I had a free members ticket.

I liked Burghley better it did seem as someone said more personal!!! You can get real good views, plus the riders are in full public areas. Bumped into clayton fredricks last time in the pimms tent!

Not been to Burghley (yet) but prefer Blenheim to Badminton...

Yes I did Blenheim last year and the year before, it was really good. It was nice to be able to sit by the water, if I remember rightly when we went to Badminton it was a bit tricky getting a good spot! The first year at Blenheim I took my mum (who is not at all horsey) and as we were walking past the first few fences she said "ooh look at that" (I think it might have been a train or something like that), I said how it was good how they made all the different fences or something along those lines, she said "are they really meant to jump over that?!?!". We had such a lovely day and my mum absolutely loved it!

I love Burghley, and from Norwich it's a pretty easy train ride- go to Ely, then change to Stamford (I think). Then you're not far at all away.

We go from Norfolk every year, takes about 90 minutes in the car. Absolutely love it :D

Taken the caravan and stayed at both .Enjoyed both of them but prefer Burghley
The sponsors at Burghley are Pedigree Chum and Land Rover at Burghley so there is a Pedigree Chum agility challenge set up £1 to enter and a lovely goody bag with loads of doggie stuff in for getting around.
There is a Land Rover challenge and good stalls selling Land rover items. As a doggie person and Defender owner I really enjoy that.
The dog crèche at Burghley is bigger and has double kennels Badminton only has singles and are they less adaptable with timings .At Burghley you can book a 2 hour session and split it into 2 one hours if you want where as Badminton you get 2 hours and if you get back early you loose the rest of the time
There is a shop on the caravan site at both but Burghley has a lovely dog friendly pub a short dog walk through the woods opposite the entrance to the site serving snacks and food. Dogs are welcome in one of the bars.
The lake at Burghley seems more spectacular and the course seems more spread out to me though I may be imagining that!!!
On the whole prefer Burghley
