Having an impossible little pony to catch during the summer i decided to leave her headcollar on - its been on for 3 days. Caught her in tonight to do some long reining and noticed the headcollar has been rubbing the underside of her jaw across the bony parts either side :( it has rubbed the fur away and left two 2 pence sized red raw patchs which the flies have been on it :( bathed it all - wasnt too bad and put on an antiseptic cream and fly gel, noticed the flies kept well away which is fab that it seems to be working and left her out with a naked face.
Question is how do i catch her now?! took me almost 3 hours to get near her - shes a crafty little devil and can sometimes be quite headshy and nervous.
It was so much easier with her head collar on - but i dont want to risk it rubbing her again - any suggestions on a soft turn out head coller or how to catch a pony?

I would initially just catch her, feed her then chuck her out again, even if you only just bring her outside the gate. Then she'll associate being caught with food! Then when she's happily caught you can do a bit of work with a feed, then put her out. Build it up until you can catch her whenever :)

I had the worst luck catching my boy - sometimes it would take two hours each night so I feel your pain!

Initially I had to seperate him from the herd - not sure if you can do this? I did the whole bring in, feed, turn out and it made no difference. Have you tried taking a bucket of feed to the field - when she puts her head down for the feed slip the headcollar on.

I've tried so many things - how many other horses/ponies in the field?
