Just thought would give an update as to how Bailey is getting on with his backing.
I have done a lot with him before; playing in the school with poles, tarpaulin, barrels etc and he has had his bridle, saddle and roller on before. I have also leant on him bareback before.
Yesterday was his 3rd time on the lunge and the first time he has worn his saddle when lunging; the first two times we had someone at his head, teaching him the commands and to walk off on a circle. Yesterday we did the whole session with no one at his head and he was a little superstar
He was walking off when asked, stopping and standing when asked and learnt to walk further out on the circle and take up more rein when I said "out." He had a go at trotting and I did expect some kind of reaction with it being his first time trotting with tack on, but he wasn't fussed at all! He was as good as gold, was just so chuffed with him.
We finished off by leaning on the saddle (first time done this) and again, he was fab
As he is so big and I am a short @rse in comparison, I couldn't lie across him entirely, so we practised jumping up next to him and leaning on the saddle as well. He thought I was mental for doing this and gave me a, "what are you doing" look
All in all, I was so so pleased with him. He is so chilled out, and such a dude about everything. He is so happy to learn and enjoys what he is doing. I am not expecting everything to go smoothly as horses - and youngsters - are unpredictable; he has just been amazing so far. Can't wait for when I hand him over to my YO for the riding and get to ride him properly for the first time
Anyway, some pics - not the best quality as the indoor school lighting is a bit weird, but hopefully will give you an idea how he is doing
Thanks very much to friend who took over so I could take piccies

Mum! I see you!
What are you doing?
Finished!
What do we think?
He is such a good boy, I am so so so pleased with him
