Hi, you may have read my previous post re my TB 4yr mare who lives out 24/7 and has lost a bit of weight recently.
Just to re-cap, she was having approx 1 bale hay per day sharing with a small coblet and 2 welsh sec a's. Had 2 feeds per day which consisted of 1 lg scoop alfa-a, 1 lg sc S/B, 2 lg sc D&H build up mix.

She is ridden 5 times per week, approx 1 - 2 hrs hacking per day.
Called up Baileys yesterday and they have given me a new feed plan:
Just called baileys and they have put together a feed plan:

baileys no4 conditioning cubes - 1 scoop
outshine supplement - 1 - 2 mugs
per feed twice per day

1 bucket (rubber skip) of alfa a to be fed seperate from the feed approx 2/3 hours after breakfast once per day

Seperate her from the ponies and ad lib hay
They said i should see a difference within 6/8 weeks.

Going to introduce it slowly from tomorrow and have increased hay by putting out 1 bale in morning then adding another half at night, since doing this they seem to be more interested in what little grass there is left! theres still quite a bit of hay left in the morning

ps she has been wormed regulary from a foal - i have just recieved all her records from the stud/vets where she was bred over in ireland
She was getting up to weight nicely but now the winters arrived and the grass is gone shes lost condition

am hoping this new feed plan will work!

I had baileys recommend me no.14 I think, it's a balancer and the outshine oil as well, having seen the price of the outshine no way am I going to be paying for that, plus she is a really good doer on great grazing and haylage so feed merchant said wouldn't need it...can't help but wonder if they push it to make more money!

Have used both on my ageing TB with good results. I suspect she wasn't getting her full share of hay before so her new regime should help alot. The seperate bucket of alf alfa is a good idea - mine gets a 'bonus bucket' of this at night. Sugarbeet is also a good fibre/calorie source.... the unmollassed sort would probably suit her.

I feed thorogoods version of No 4 only £6.50 a bag used to feed baileys no $ and they do make a huge difference so althought I cant see the pics would have thought they would make a big difference

i've fed Outshine, and all of mine are always on No. 4, really rate them both.
or, you can feed Wheatings (Sharp's Flour) which is the same thing as Baileys No. 1, a bran/wheat combo thing, horses love it and it puts weight on v. well.

Just been done the feedstore now and the only bag of outshine they had left was due to go out of date 29/12/09 (it was the biggest sack) they let me have it for £10! so at least i should get my £10 worth before the month is out

also got the cubes so will be introducing it tomorrow

I feed both and would have sworn by them until recently when both of my horses have had what I can only describe as sore gurgly stomachs, with one of them in particular being very uncomfortable. After much investigation my vet has put it down to long term use of a fatty product ie Outshine. I must say I'm not totally convinced but I have now cut out the Outshine and will see if there is any change.

i feed outshine and REALLY rate it (and i'm a tightwad!

) my 4 year old has two cups a day so the big bag does last a long time

i put my TB on it too (he's always been ribby) and he got fat so i had to take him off it. the other thing is that my youngster has a super shiney coat too- i hardly have to even brush him
smirk.gif

i feed the outshine with lo cal and alfa a
