Last show season I had Earl on Science supplements Linseed conditioner and he did well on it. A big tub lasted quite a while. Over the Winter we didn't bother with it once his tub ran out but now he's ready to go back on it again.
I went to buy some the over the weekend (about £25 a tub) and next to it sat some Baileys Outshine (smaller tub but £15).
I'm sure I've heard good things about Baileys Outshine from HHO forum. So was wondering what those of you who have used it can tell me. Particularly any benefits it might have that the Linseed conditioner hasn't or vice versa.
I did opt to stick to what I knew on this occassion, I know he looks good on it, but was just wondering for future referance...

I love Baileys Outshine (use the 20kg bags) - it is expensive at nearly £40 but I used to feed linseed plus oil and I think it actually works out cheaper. The benefit of using Outshine is that it lasts a long time - you only need a small amount, it has anti oxidants to counteract the high oil and also Pri obotics. It was the only thing that put wieght on my boy without the fizziness (25 mj/kg) but I did feed it for weight gain- I think you only need 1/2lb for coat shine.

The outshine is used with speedibeet, happy hoof and a balancer + joint supp.

Hello L - I have used linseed but use Outshine now and am really pleased with the result. T looks fab on it, I buy the 20kg bag from the feed merchant where I keep T and so it is not £40 a bag! I find it easier to guage how much you need, for coat shine they recommend a cup (1/2 pint) and the bag lasts forever on this rate.

I don't think you need to feed a balancer as Outshine is also a balancer - check with Baileys but I do not feed a balancer when feeding outshine.

Oh, for referance Earl has:
Baileys No4
Sugarbeet
Dengie HiFi Lite
Linseed conditioner
Carotts
He is a fairly good do-er for a horse but not so much as your regular cob, if that makes sense??! When he goes out with the racehorses he tends to get quite trim/lean, still in good condition, but very tight and fit looking and too light for a show cob.

Hence, he has quite alot of grub.
He actually finds schooling much harder work and builds his muscles up more from this but I can only do it at weekends (and now lighter the odd evenings I can get out of work on time).

Outshine has really help me keep weight on the little ginger one over winter and has loads of pro's for me as she can't eat anything high in startch or sugar.
It's not a balancer though, ring Baileys and have a chat, they are always very helpful.

SS's Mum - I have just rung Baileys because the thought that I may have been wasting money by feeding a balancer brought me in a hot flush !!! Anyway they said it is NOT a balancer - it is a supplement and should be fed alongside a balanced diet. The probiotics help to digest the oil just in case a balancer or complete food does not contain them as some dont. Either way if Donkey is looking well then I guess that is all the answer you need!

How much outshine would one need to feed to a sec a yearling?

very tempted to swap to this once linseed has run out as had great results with it a couple of years back and its much easier for me to get hold of compared to the linseed
