Baileys Outshine?

Anyone feed it? I'm not looking for now, just for in the winter when my Appy is hunting as he tends to be a pain to keep weight on when he is hunting fit. Last year, I fed him Topline Conditioning Cubes, Barley Rings, Dengie Alfa-A Oil and Baileys Performance Balancer split into two feeds but he still looked on the poor side. He also had ad-lib haylage and was well rugged up. He also seems to have developed mild Shivers over the past year, and I have read that horses with this condition tend to be better on a low sugar, high Oil diet so I think Baileys Outshine might be an option.

What do you think? :)
 
I've used it for years - small amounts for coat shine and more for condition/topline.

In terms of coat shine nothing beats it and I've tried just about everything. I feed 1 mug ( 225g ) daily to my cob x and she gleams - my friend always says she can use her as a mirror for putting her lipstick on!

I feed between 2 and 4 mugs to my 7/8ths TB for condition, however I have to say EquiJewel does a much better job of conditioning than Outshine but as I love the Outshine so much for shine I tend to stick with it.

I've read a lot about the detriments of feeding horses soya and how ricebran (EquiJewel) is a much better alternative - however I notice on Baileys website they say NOT to feed ricebran. I've actually posted today on it as I find it all very confusing!

My TB is very fussy and eats Outshine with no problem so I'd say it's reasonably palatable/has no real taste. It never fizzes her up either and she's easily fizzable!

I really rate it regardless of cost and it's been a staple in my feed room for a long time - however for condition I do find the EquiJewel gets weight on quicker for the same amount fed and also seems to build better topline than the Outshine.

ETA - if you're doing some research on this have a look at Hallways Luminance which is marketed through Saracen. It's supposedly the next generation EquiJewel and contains ricebran, linseed and soya so is sort of Outshine & EquiJewel combined.

Fantastic stuff :) used it on a mare who had skin problems rather than for weight gain. Worked brilliantly. Just wish it was cheaper.

ETA: My old pointer was a shiverer, although we never went down the high oil diet as quite frankly the amount you should be feeding is astronomical and virtually unpalatable. The fitter he was, the better the condition became, we used to spend hours doing strengthening and supplying work on his hindquarters. Leg yields, shoulder in and something I called 'the crab' i'm sure it has a technical stressage name but we got him walking horizontally to the fence line, crossing his hind legs and strengthening his back.

I was feeding it in small amounts till recently for shine but have upped it over the last couple of weeks and am seeing a difference in the condition of my pony already - very pleased so far
