Balanced support reins - has anyone used them and can confirm that they are supposed to be only 1.5cm in width even in the larger sizes?

Opened a present to check it, only to find that they are so thin/narrow they’ll hurt your hands unless you wear gloves. It looks like someone sized up the length without considering that by XL pony (13.2hh +) the rider would have near adult sized hands.

Is this a mistake? Or are they supposed to be like this?

I can imagine that's the correct width, as from what I can see of how they work wider ones would mean needing an extra wide buckle?
I tend to buy adult reins in a similar width (1/2"), although I do have small hands.
Unless the pony pulls like a train I think that size shouldn't cause any soreness?
ETA not seen them in person, but looks like a clever idea.

Thank you! I’ll see if I can find a saddler to sort the rein part - just wanted to check it wasn’t a mistake. It won’t affect the buckle as the rein attaches after the buckle to the fabric grip rein on either side.

Pony is young and runs off at random moments - excitement, spooking. Child needs to be able to pull her up comfortably and quickly to keep them both safe. The fabric grip reins are very thin as well as being this narrow. It’s like there’s nothing there. Solid leather would be better but would slip more easily hence choosing these…
