Horse is a 6yo Welsh D mare in a moderate level of work (hour+ 6x week, she's always worked until she's puffing). Awful, awful hooves - horn is hard but so brittle I feel like I'm fighting a losing battle! She's got EMS due to my previous mismanagement but the weight is coming off and I'm hoping it'll be easier to control when she's a healthy weight.

She was previously on TopSpec Lite but I've run out and my feed store won't be getting any in for 3 weeks so I'm thinking about making a change.

Any recommendations? I've been eyeing up one of the barefoot ones (Pro Hoof?); would this be sufficient on its own or would she need a general balancer on top of this?

Go for a vit/min supplement powder in a handfull of unmollassed chaff. I use equivite original for my EMS pony. It means she gets everything she needs without adding any extra energy.

With bad feet and a metabolic problem I'd go for Pro Hoof +. Its not the cheapest, but it is one of the best and will be a huge improvement on Top Spec. The only addition you would need is salt and possibly a small amount of linseed

I use alltech Lifeforce and I swear by it. When I first got G I struggled to keep shoes on him, last time he went 7 weeks! It's a powder so no unnecessary calories, and he's the picture of health.
