After cocking up by glibly believing the Laminitis site's (and being quickly pulled up *Thanks guys*) endorsement of Spillers Lite+Lean balancer (which wound up over the 10% ratio start/sugars) I am now almost ready to buy a new bag.

For those of you who followed the thread, don't worry I didnt feed it all to the pony in that time :D I got my DWB clearance machine on the job.

So recommendations for suitable balancers please?

You’ve not cocked up..I tried spillers too but he became footy v quickly..went onto the topspec but didn’t like the fillers in it despite him being fine on it..now (for last 2 years) he has linseed salt pink mash carrots apples occasionally and hi fi molasses free, soaked hay..shiny coat hooves etc..equimins does look like a good one..

equimins advance complete, the pelleted one would mean you didn't have to give any additonal feed, so might work out best

This, but for a laminitic I would probably add extra magnesium.

Alt forageplus (they do a lami specific one or a pellet)
pro hoof
equivita

I use the ForagePlus laminitic specific balancer all year round currently fed in speedibeet, Honeychop Lite and Healthy, a smidge of bran, salt and dried mint. I tried them on Equimins pellets but it smelt like dead fish and they refused to touch it.

Forageplus, Progressive Earth....iron free being really important, and generally the companies that specialise in diets for the barefooted tend to be the healthiest and at the cutting edge (in terms of what we SHOULD feed our horses rather than what hi tech methods and ingredients we CAN use).

Also Equivita and Equimins. Equimins gives the biggest bang for you buck and is adequate for most horses.

Thank you for all the information everyone. I think I will go for the Equimins and work from there.

I am so glad I caught it before she had a proper attack and with your help can feed her to help prevent another twinge !

TopSpec lite balancer is the best! Baileys lo cal is an absolute no go - it contains molasses and soya which aren’t good for horses with Cushings or laminitis. I really don’t understand why Baileys is so popular with laminitic horses because the ingredients are not good...
