Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I can use to try and help the regrowth of hair from Mudfever.

My mare came to me with cronic mudfever which has now cleared up thankfully but her leg has a lovely big bald patch on it now and there are no signs of hair growing back at all

try the aromesse website (in google). I've used aromaheel for mud-fever and it's great. Think it also says something about promoting hair growth.

For the moment you need to protect the leg against further re-infection, by using an oil based barrier lotion.

The hair will grow back, but it does take some time on the legs.

Cornucrescine works on my TB who gets bald bits on his legs every year from mud fever. You have to make sure it's not still sore though before you put it on.

I have delt with this a few years back. Just keep the legs clean and look out for cuts etc. Dont worry about the hair it will grow back in a few weeks. Be more concerned with keeping the skin good and all will be fine.

Grace also had this last winter, and only now is the hair starting to grow back. I just left it alone (although have started applying mug rash protection again since the bad weather started because she got it so badly last winter).

Thanks for the replies guys.

She hasnt got mudfever now luckily. Its been about 4/5 months since she had it.

This winter im definatly going to prevent it as much as I can. Unfortunatly last winter she came to me with it

I was thinking of turnout boots but have heard you can only keep them on for so long during the day.

It's great that there is no sign of it now. Remember though - you don't need mud for them to get cracked heals and mud feaver per se. Constant wet weather is enough to bring it on - so do continue to keep her protected.

New horse has his legs plastered every time I put him out.

Megatek rebuilder from tailgator.co.uk - it will help restore the hair and is also good for skin problems. Their shampoo is also great, in fact I love most of their products.

Great stuff - keeps Chancer very hairy and Cairo is no longer a bald coot - he only had half a mane - ending mid neck for years but now has a mane (still a bit thin at the wither end) that is same length - I can actually now put his heavy horse plait in.
