Breeze has started to show bald patches along his back on either side of his spine. He is rugged 24/7 because his skin cannot cope with getting wet and comes out in lumps ever since he was soaked through in his first winter (he is now 3). He was appallingly itchy over summer which I put down to sweet itch (I now dont think it was but is allergy related)and his coat constantly appears to be greasy.scurfy. I was really expecting him to go into spring with a gorgeous coat but over the last 2 weeks it had started to look 'fluffy' on his back and last night I found 3 bald patches on one side. Tonight there are more patches on both sides several inches across and it is coming out in handfuls. He is fed 1 measure of baileys lo-cal (250g) and a small scoop of speedi beet to mix his magnesium in, he was also having spillers fibre cubes (150g) up to a few weeks ago but had only had these for a couple of months over the worst of winter. I will have the vet out on monday or tuesday but would really appreciate any suggestions anyone can make. Could the speedi beet cause this, I seem to remember someone mentioning their horse being allergic to it. I also want to bath him tomorrow, I figure if I can get the grease and scurf out it can only help, any suggestions on what to use. The skin on the bald patches appears very dry and almost 'thickened' but not sore or rubbed and he hasnt got wet at all over the winter. Can anyone suggest any homeopathic remedies that may help, I was thinking sulphur but not sure if it is the right one. Sorry this is so long!
