What is the best way to stop my horse rubbing its face bald? Wearing a fly mask but still getting itchy looking for suggestions on soothing the itch Thankyou in advance,
helpful suggestions thanks dont do the slagging off thing .

Not really as she seams to just like to self harm lol. She done it in the winter to such a shame. As she is a pretty thing I get her looking normal go the next day and shes rubbed herself in a couple of places on her face at a loss

are there any scabs, even tiny ones? might be worth giving her a hibiscrub face wash (but careful to dilute it enough) as I've known a couple of horses get dermatophilus on the face-but mostly in the summer. some barrier creams might help but tbh in long term use, they just contribute to the problem. emu oil cream, aloe vera or even black label wonder gel might help as long as she's not put in bright sun afterwards.

My girl has been rubbing her mane and face due to midges so I've used E45 cream on the rubbed bits and Avon's Skin so Soft to deter the midges and something is working because hair almost grown back.

We've got an all year round itcher (not sweet itch) on our yard and the best thing they've found is feeding a little bit of marmite each day, you can tell when they haven't as the itching is way worse. Guess it must be something to do with the yeast extract so perhaps brewers yeast has a similar effect?

Brewers yeast helps my pony wgo has sweet itch

I use aqueous cream on any rubbed bits, its really cheap which is a bonus. I use gold label Itchgon liquid on any persistently itchy bits which by process of elimination works besf for my pony

One of mine does this, it was starting to grow back but then hes started again with avengance he does have have sweet itch but we have tried all of these things mentioned so far and more inc the injections and cavellese (have you tried this OP? You get it from your vet) hes still on brewers yeast and very high oil diet but at a total loss with him now! Sorry to high jack just wanted to follow the thread really incase anyone mentions anything new! What is dermatophilus?
