Hello all,

My little Shetland is coming up to 2, and I've recently noticed bald patches appearing on him. There is one either side of his neck and one on his chest. He has spent the winter un-rugged and takes the rain with little fuss or worry.

I have no idea what's causing these patches, is it a rain rash or something to do with mud or something along those lines? There's no scarring or anything like that and he doesn't mind me touching the patches at all, all help much appreciated!

Could he be rubbing himself while enjoying a scratch? I know a shetland who does that, she has a tree stump that she uses as a scratching post. Have a look in the field for large clumps of fluff on posts and trees. :)

My shetland had this - the skin underneath was just totally bald not irritated at all!

Vet diagnosed it as ringworm and although im still not convinced it was, after treating them both theres no more bald patches.

Is yours scurfy at all? Mine are, I'm starting to think that they are just getting confused with this weather constantly changing from hot to cold!

ETA - sorry, didn't realise this was two months old :p did you get it sorted?
