I posted a thread about these the other week, now they're mostly around his flank area, no scabs anymore no crustiness or ooziness etc, just pure bald patches, horse isn't acting different nor is he showing any signs of any itchiness, I'm a bit bamboozled! After seeing it now, I really don't think it's rain scald like before, if it carries on I'll get the vet out, but what do you all think?

Sorry about the photo best I could do.

the spot right at the bottom of the pic looks odd but I think it was the sun and camera playing tricks.x

My younsgter has these too! All on his flanks and a couple just dotted around. I wondered whether it was because he was too hot so I have changed his rugs just in case. He doesn't show any signs of being itchy, and they are just bold!

I will watch this thread very closely indeed! :D

I've done the same now, he was in a medium weight 200g rug, he's now in a 40g, feel a bit mean as he's not the hairiest of horseys! X

my TB had 2 of theses random bald patches on his left flank too!!!

really weird!

hair started growing back now though thank god!!

i too think it was maybe he was a little to warm but not sure.... he didnt even gets scabs just bald lol!

:)

I cant see the photo as work computer is stupid! but just a thought did the rugs have back leg straps and is it where they join the rug as normally a knot which could rub? As this is normally at flank level.

^^ hehe I was squeezing my 17hh monster into the others' 6ft 3s but finally admitted defeat, she's really a 6ft 6 but bought her a 6ft 9 in the *hope* that it might fit her at least for quite a while longer! :D. I bought it in the sale too :p and for me its cheaper because of the liner system - I use the 6ft3 liners out of the others rugs so she only has 1 outer turnout rug for a wide range of temps. Will need to buy her a new LW when it begins to warm up though!
