My horse has developed bald patches on his face, not scabbie and can see no sign of lice. None of the other horses that share field & stable block have it. He has had a double dose of invermectin based wormer for possible mange. Being washed every other day with hibbi scrub, He's stabled at night and wet weather (so not out much). When out he is rugged. Bald patches now appearing on neck.
Vet coming again tomorrow have any of you got any ideas????????

souds similar to my horse. he's had to for 1 yr now, getting worse over the past 3 weeks.

think its alopecia (see my post), through stress (lack of grazing- he was starved when i got him)

is it rain scald?

If they are round and increase in size every day it might be ringworm.
Otherwise it does sound like lice, I found lots of our horses with them today after checking for weeks and finding none! We will be doing a mass de lousing asap, have you parted the hair further round the patches incase any are hiding there?
(or under the forelock is the most usual place)

Sounds like lice to me too. They're really hard to spot unless your'e eagle eyed. Lice seem to cause most irritation around the head and neck and the bald / sore patches seem to turn up over night.

Well I had the vet out to one of my horses with a similar condition and the vet thought possible ringworm. Since then I found lice on two horses newly arrived on the yard. Although it hadn't been turned out with ours they had touched noses so they have all been treated with spot-on for lice. I had been washing her neck with Malaseb for ringworm but am now going to watch for any improvement incase it was lice she'd caught. I must admit I could see thousands on this coloured predominantly white hairy cob but couldn't see any on my horse but the vet said as she is fine coated they would be hiding in her mane and tail.
