STILL looking into buying a 4x4 and have been comparing costs...

Ive looked into fuel, insurance, servicing, replacement tyres, etc, based on 200 miles a week to work.

I have come up with my current car (corsa) costs about £120 per month (£1440 per year) to run.

A 4x4 (based on a 2005 2.5 diesel disco) looks like it would cost around £260 per month (£3120 per year) to run?

Does that sound about right or have I missed something?

Many thanks - pm me if you prefer not to admit how much your car costs!

Ive got an '06 Nissan x-trail 2.2 turbo diesel and to be honest, it doesnt use that much more fuel than my old cars ( 1999 meganne convertible 1.8 and 2001 puma 1.7 )

I dont know how old your corsa is but if it is old/high mileage it is a bit of a false economy in terms of servicing/mot's etc etc.

If you can, buy from a dealer and get an extended warranty as it will save on servicing costs in the long run.

Insurance. I have 4 years no claims and it was 30 quid more a year to insure the xtrail.

Tyres are more expensive though :/

Hope this is of use to you

I do about 500 miles per week and I find the following costs (Kia Sorento, 30-32mpg, 55-plate 2.5 litre diesel) averaged out over a year:

Per month:
fuel: roughly £300
Tax: £17.50
Servicing: £70
Insurance: £50
Tyres: £10 (I am estimateing getting 30k miles from a set of tyres costing about £350 for 4)

Hope that helps
