With so many events being cancelled due to weather / ground conditions [they go hand in hand really], everyone is trying to pack into the few remaining events - fair enough.

But having just scrolled through Burnham Markets entries, someone has NINE horses entered. Fair enough, if you produce horses for a living and riding is your job, you're going to be competing more than others. But surely NINE is a bit excessive? I'm not clued up on BE rules, but surely with the way it is atm, a temporary ride restriction could be put in place? IE no more that X number of horses per event.

It just seems that everyone is complaining about the balloting, and BE haven't looked at the people who regularly enter in excess of five horses. I probably sound like a Grumpy Old Woman, anyone elses thoughts?

I know, but all I'm saying is surely 9 rides is a bit excessive - amateur 1 horse riders could get balloted because they're entering 9. Surely a limit on the numbers ie no more than 5 would make a difference? Just for the tail end of this season.

Actually i think there might be some kind of rule about that you know.........can't remember details.
Also i've noticed on ballot lists before that people with more that one horse do tend to get balloted....but i guess it could just be coincidence in the ones i happened to have looked at.

I could be wrong but don't have a rule book to hand

i think you are only allowed to ride 5 horses per day of competition so an event that runs on sat and sun you are allowed to ride 10 horses.

On the flip side - as a landowner you would prefer 9 horses on one or two wagons, rather than 9 horseboxes containing one horse.

Also as an ignorant SJer, can I assume its only the small classes that get balloted? So if you were competing advanced and intermediate the odds of getting balloted are small due to fewer people competing???

I can see it from both viewpoints but having been ballotted from two events in a row now (have no got into one yet) i am wondering if there is any point in day ticktes at all. For me there was no point registering for even half a year as i knew we would not be ready until beginning of september really...so bought 2 day tickets hoping to buy another 2 later on.

I am just hoping i get into Burnham
