Just bought a lovely irish dappletastic cob and was wondering about his breeding, or if anyone on here knows of them.

Bud's choice was brought over from Ireland this summer and previous to that it looks like he was in Co. Wicklow and Co. Wexford, where he was a logging horse at some point. I was wondering if I can find out his parentage as I think he might show, and it would be good to be able to register him if poss. His sire is Ballyhaunis Breeze (anyone got any photos?) and his dam was 'Rushes'. His first registered owner was John Burke from Johnstown, Hollywood.

Can anyone help?

Does this work?

Hi my name is Catherine Burke, daughter of John Burke. My father is the owner of buds choices dam rushes. We received your letter about buds choice and have tried to contact you but the number is invalid. If you would like to email me back on catherineburke233@gmail.com and I could try give you more information about the dam and sire of buds choice. Looking forward to hearing from you. Kind regards Catherine.

Hi Catherine, I spoke to the man who bought him from you. Turns out he was a stallion till last year and has sired upwards of 60 foals! Busy boy!! Could have knocked me down with a feather.

I know this is an old thread but I have just bought a horse who has Buds Choice down as her sire. I wanted to post a picture of her and her dam just out of interest for you, but can't work out how to.
My girl was born in May 2010 and hasn't yet been registered but I am going to do that soon. She too was born in Ireland and trained to log in her early years. She currently stands at 16.2 but I think she's going to grow some more.
She is a dark bay with a big white flash and two white back legs. She has a lovely willing nature and is a pleasure to be around 😆

She's a big girl MissB isn't she, and Bud's Choice doesn't look overly massive from the pictures. If yours was taught to log then she's been taught to drive and would have no problem under a trap or a gig I'm sure. What a nice bonus to get.

I wonder how Snowstorm got on with her lad - does he ever act like a stallion I wonder!?

Miss B and Irish gal, thank you so much for responding to this thread. How exciting! I had forgotten about it to be honest. Well 2 years on from buying Bud's Choice (Buddy) he has turned into the horse love of my life! He is such a kind, gentle-man, that is until we get on the hunting field and then he livens up to 'just right'. He is a proper sweetie. He also was a logging horse and stops on a sixpence if you just say halt or 'good boy'. Apart from hunting and lots of hacking, we have started doing a bit of classical dressage too and he just loves being in the school. We had a go at Trec earlier in the year and he liked that too. Irish gal, I can honestly say he NEVER acts like a stallion, though I gather he sired his first foal when he was...a yearling!

I would love to see a photo of your mare Miss B. I will have a go at private messaging you my email/facebook so we can exchange photos. Buddy has finished growing at 15hh and is now 8 years old (born 2007), but as noted he is really chunky and easily has 10" of bone. I would love to see and hear about any of his other offspring if anyone knows any others.

His dam, Rushes, was a black Irish cob and his dad was an unregistered grey Irish Draught, called Ballyhoura Breeze (not Ballyhaunis as in the title). Buddy is on a white Irish passport, Irish horse register number 4828421.

By the way Buddy's full brother Max is even more handsome and gets placed at national Irish draught breed shows here in the UK in Maxi cob classes.

I do hope we get to communicate more.
