Balmoral .....

Going up tho nothing to show because i dont think the little coloured lad will be appropriate for showing after all- boohoo!

My OH will probably show in the TB yearling in hand class tho so will go to watch (and groom no doubt!!)

Well last year was the first time we went to shows together and he refused to wear the hat in front of me coz he was too embarassed

awww the big baby!!

but he does have a bowler hat to wear his yearling didnt win any of her classes last year even tho she was a fab little thing (prob because she was quite small- yearlings always do better if they look more like 2 yos!) so i convinced him he didnt win because he wasnt wearing a hat and thus wasnt turned out properly so he has decided he will be definitely wearing i this year!!despite the shame of looking like an egg head!!

I havent got a schedule yet either- wonder when they r out?? they r taking there time- normally out by now and entries shut on 14th march

cheers! has u OH been out practising running her up etc? does she wear a bridle ok at the min happily enuf? Good on him for having a go!

not my yearling unfortunatley but OH's father think she is just over 14.2hh hope she grows to at least 15hh before showing starts its disappointing when you have a nice yearling but they loose out to bigger ones last yr at balmoral there was only two in class but OH's lost out because she was smaller of the two despite putting on a nicer show i really dont think size should have anything to do with it because a horse can only grow at its natural rate!! What about yours??

Yeah, ... we have , shes wearing the bridle fine, I think we first put it on her a month or 2 back , she took her to her first show I think fortnight after we got her lol, just over to donegal to see what she would do . she behaved really well then and that was with her bridle on (lead rein just on noseband)

If she behaves herself ok do they still allow the lead rein to be put onto the noseband ? would rather have that than pull the mouth of her .

Shes been doing really well of late , she wears her rug and stands without being held to get it on ( i just literally chuck it over her lol)
We measured her the other night and shes 15.1hh shes grew 4 inches since we have had her lol
She trots up and down nicely , the blacksmith is coming to give her feet a trim before the 2 front shoes are being put on ( will be a good few weeks yet)
Shes such a sweetheart, loves the attention , neighs everytime we pull up in the car . Cant wait for pauline to see her

thats great sounds like she is a nice type! They say they need to be in and around 15.2hh for balmoral so that is great she is 15.1hh.

Is she carrying much wieght at the moment? Make sure u have her well fed and a nice shinning coat! Altho dont over do it as some of those yearlings look like three yr olds which iIMO is totally awful- and u know who the culprits generally are.....

I would say that if u put it on the noseband no one would really mind- just bear in mind that u may have more control if on the bit as the whole atmosphere of balmoral and the amount of horses in the class may get her a bit raised so u may be glad of more control!!!

I think personally she is looking just nice , shes got a nice covering and well her coat is def shining at the minute and I would normally have given it a quick brush lol .... heres a video of her ...

Hubbie will be glad of more control :P ( cue the evil laugh )
We will see how she goes when out there and if needs be change it over ( she will be lead at home with abit of pressure on the bit so she gets used to it) shes very laid back and hubbie talks away to her, couldnt get over how well behaved she was when we took her to donegal , I was so proud of her .
I have started to put 2 rugs on her to get her to start casting ... is this a good idea ? i know we still have march to go through

Yeah she looks a good enuf wieght there. Yep lots of rugs to get a nice coat coming thro as hard enuf to get a good coat for bal as so early. I wud also add lots of oil to her feed- linseed or soya which will give it a great shine too!

Sherwood .... We where debating this the other day in horseware shop in antrim about browbands ... she has a gold clencer one at the minute ... Would she need a coloured one ? do they use coloured ones ?

Im thinking as she has no white markings will she need something to brighten herself up ?
There was a green and brown velvet one ... and does she really need to be plaited with thread ?

Sorry with the questions lol I just want everything to go right for her first ( and ours) outing

No- keep it all very plain- def no coloured browbands- plain brown leather. If you can plait with thread and she will satnd i would but if u r going to have a row then i wud use brown bands altho i find they fall out quite easily!

Also make sure she is all tidy with feathers cut, tail nice and short at the hock and pulled (may need to dope for this LOL), muzzle all clipped etc and bridel path. Prob best to dope and tackle all of this about a week before balmoral.

Also u mentioned OH attire!! He wud need to be in a blakc suit if possible-smart shoes that he wud no way ever dream of walking around a field in normally

white shirt and a bright tie. Also def wud need to have a bowler haat and gloves.

http://www.saddler.co.uk/acatalog/In_Hand_Show_Bridle_for_Ponies_AHCSB.html

this woudl be a nice type of clencher bridle which would brighten her up.

that bridle is very simliar to what she has now .... but with a gold clencher browband ..... You any good at pulling tails ? lol Hate it lol , the door is low enough that I could back her up and pull away .

she doesnt mind pulling at her tail but I have never pulled tails before always plaited ( pulling would be better mind you )

You think black suit ??? really ?

I was thinking hacking/tweed type jacket ? with creamy beige trousers and green tie with brown gloves and shoes ?

I suppose it is personal preference i just no DG and DL and late SM always wear that black type of outfit. ( Can u work out my code!!)

yea thats a good bridle then- see what suits her best if u like a gold browband u just dont want it to be too fussy!

I am good at pulling tails but not off yearlings- i value my teeth

Hahthats why i said maybe u mite need a we bit of dope and do it all at once but def back up to door. U can also get oyster type combs what trim the tail without that awful scissor cut look.

DEF DO NOT plait the tails! cardinal sin- plaited tails r only ever suitable for a brood mare class- that wud scream amateur!!

Im gona back her up the night and pull a tiny bit to see what she does, To be honest I dont think she will do anything shes that laid back I think she has a drip of dope at times lol

Now pulling her mane could be a different story lol ... it needs to be taken up abit before it can be plaited . she doesnt like it at all

I think I worked out one of the codes .. best pm me lol

The reason being colour wise) is that she has dark legs I thought to go for a lighter colour for dh ?
